On the 29th of June, the Singapore Red Cross and Health Sciences Authority celebrated World Blood Donor Day by organising a carnival. Additionally, they held an award ceremony to recognise individuals within the National Blood Programme who have achieved various donation milestones. I am honoured to be one of the 36 YOUTHphoria award recipients this year to receive the medal from Guest of Honour Ms Rahayu Mahzam, Minister of State (MOS), Ministry of Communications and Information & Ministry of Health. Recently introduced, the award is for youths below the age of 25 years who have made at least 20 donations. Having witnessed my great-grandmother receive multiple blood transfusions during her past hospital stays, I'm acutely aware of the importance blood donors play in our society. That, and the desire to help others, has spurred me to incorporate blood donation into my lifestyle since turning 18. Many others have also adopted this way of life, and their respective milestone awards inspire me to emulate them. Being a blood donor is a privilege I cherish, and I look forward to continue giving the gift of life for the years to come. #WorldBloodDonorDay #SGRedCross
