Did you know that in many cases even coffee growers selling their beans to fair trade coops are not making enough money to support their families. As a result these growers are food insecure for months of the year. To put it more bluntly, anyone who enjoys a cup of coffee, is likely doing it on the backs of people who are hungry day after day for many months of the year. #Food4Farmers is working on lasting solutions to end this cycle of hunger for coffee growers. These solutions—things like teaching how to keep bees and to cultivate a backyard garden—may seem simplistic but they are actually making coffee growing communities more resilient and more economically sustainable. Read more from Jessie Price and their shared gratitude for coffee growers in our latest blog: https://lnkd.in/gyWp29Qa

58 million pounds of chocolate will be purchased this week in the U.S. leading up to Valentine’s Day. Cocao has driven deforestation in nearly every country where it is produced. It’s estimated that 40% of cocao plantations are built within protected forests, rendering 17% of the world’s yearly cocoa production illegal. What can you do? Check out greenamerica.org's chocolate scorecard. It's a ranking of the top chocolate companies and their efforts to address deforestation in production.

How does relationship building relate to craft chocolate? 👥 It might not seem immediately obvious, but trust and collaboration with cocoa farmers lay the foundation for quality chocolate production. It's about more than just transactions; it's about understanding the human element behind the cocoa beans. 🫘 ⏳When we prioritize long-term partnerships, we're not just securing a consistent supply of cocoa; we're investing in the well-being of those who cultivate it, work with it and consume it. 💰 Working with the same people guarantees a sale with our producers which means they can reinvest in local social and environmental initiatives and plan for long-term growth and improvement. It's a crucial aspect of ensuring stability in the cocoa market. 🤝 By committing to consistent partnerships, we're not just securing our own supply chain; we're providing assurance to farmers, enabling them to plan and invest in their futures. It might sound simple, but simple doesn’t necessarily mean easy, and it's a reality we can't afford to ignore. #beantobar #craftchocolate #highqualitycocoa #craftingmarkets #longtermrelationships

Another bitter sweet day at Tony's. We’ve just topped the Chocolate Scorecard for a 5th year running 🥳🏆 but the truth is we can't end exploitation in cocoa without the whole industry changing too ! An independent assessment from Be Slavery Free, Mighty Earth and other civil society organizations, the Chocolate Scorecard grades chocolate companies on ethical sourcing, sustainability and labor practices. This year, we earned the Achievement Award for leading in practice + policy for 5 years running. And we scored top marks in the traceability, living income, child labor, deforestation + agroforestry categories. You know who could’ve done better? 🧐 Big Choco.. with many big chocolate companies scoring yellow, orange + red across the board. With none of them committing to paying a Living Income price for all their cocoa. A bitter side note to their sugary-sweet on-pack claims of '100% sustainably sourced cocoa'. Year after year, we prove that our way of working works – but we can’t change the industry alone. We need everyone to join our fight. So here’s a big choco cheers to all the other chocolate pioneers that put people + the planet at their core. ’Cause it’s only together that we’ll end exploitation in cocoa. 💪 Wanna find out more about our score?
