Many of you already heard me talking about the GenY (recently rebranded as Q2) Conservatives initiative. Q2 Conservatives is a platform for people aged 25-49 to engage with public life and policy; to build a social and campaigning network locally and nationally. It is a place for mutual learning, networking, and connections with like-minded people, a place to get help, support and advice on standing for elections and otherwise. It is also a place to contribute to winning these elections and making a difference both locally and nationally, through mutual campaigning action days with members coming locally from others areas - similar to how CWO organises action days where they send their members to knock on doors with various associations. For a modest contribution of £10 per annum, you can become part of a worthy cause of getting younger generation more actively engaged in politics. And the faster we grow in numbers, the more support we can in turn bring to campaigning, events and alike.

Events of the past week have exacerbated the conditions for a dramatic rise in #authoritarianism while setting back the fight for a multiracial democracy perhaps by generations. There’s a lot to despair about. So I revisited this essay by my buddy Ali Noorani because it reminds me that this project is also a local one, practiced daily. 📣 “A durable, inclusive #democracy requires civic engagement beyond the important act of voting… Achieving this goal requires multiple long-term strategies that transcend politics and elections.” Though our nation is in existential peril, and there is much work to be done through and beyond November, I know that activists will still organize, educators will still show up to classrooms, people will continue building community, and human relationships will still matter. I also appreciated reading Jennifer Swayne Njuguna, Esq. SHRM-SCP's piece: Fighting Injustice with Hope and Action. (https://lnkd.in/g5yk4Viv) She writes: "For folks feeling paralyzed by this mounting tide, the call is clear: Support those at the front lines through: ▶ funding ▶ public support ▶ calls to congress ▶ voting in local and state elections ▶ engaging in conversations with friends and neighbors ▶ using privilege and shielding those who face the most risk for their work ▶ understanding state and local budgets and decision points ▶ using platforms to amplify critical narrative about what is happening and what we can do ▶ directing our dollars and economic power away from places and businesses where we are not included.

Can movers really make a political difference? The answer is a resounding yes. But precisely where these movers move makes all the difference. Voters in toss-up districts and states have an outsized impact on elections. In other words, all votes are not quite equal. FOOD FOR THOUGHT: You should not only run for public office if you can win. I know, we all like to win and be the person in charge, but campaigns play a critical role in holding government officials #accountable. If there is no contest then critical issues remain unaddressed that could have life and death implications for you and your family. How? Because important decisions that are made regarding the operations of our physical, public safety, educational, economic, and social safety infrastructures get decided at these critical moments. I know we like to pretend it happens during governance, but let's be real, the majority of our politicians are concerned with chasing votes so that's what drives their decisions. In fact, that's kind of the problem! How we live our lives as a community should not be decided simply because we choose to disengage, it's exactly how crisis happens and how people die. So take the risk, even if you know you'll loose. It's time we start expecting more of every single one of our citizens, and it starts with ourselves. Now if you loose this time then you can always try next time. This isn't a one-and-done thing. A United States presidential candidate referred to Americans as vermin on the campaign trail. With the critical November elections approaching, it's imperative that we come together to protect democracy. Have you heard about Project 2025 and the threats it poses to our nation?
