Diagnoses in dermatology and dermatopathology are not always made by first impression. The awareness and use of advanced tools like AI based image analysis and molecular diagnostics are rapidly increasing. Last Friday, I co-represented Dermagnostix at our official launch event of PsorX-LabDisk at the annual meeting of the #ADH Göttingen and the feedback and interest we received for our molecular diagnostics innovation was truly amazing and encouraging. A huge thanks to the organizers for focusing on molecular diagnostics and offering a stage for innovation! Just the day after, I was invited to speak about immunopathways and IL-23 at Pso+ conference organized by Janssen where I took the chance to highlight the white spots on the dermatology map that keep driving research on diagnostics, prognostics and theranostics. Balancing my roles as Managing Director and founder of Dermagnostix, and as a researcher in translational dermatoimmunology, is challenging. It involves a wide range of tasks, from investor communications to drafting scientific publications. While focusing on one path might reduce complexity, playing this dual role at the intersection of research and business is both exciting and rewarding. Consensus, a very effective tool in the treatment of complex diseases Studies such as the one that accompanies this text, and which has been directed by the University of Warsaw, led by Dr. Lidia Rudnicka, which deals about the systemic treatment of alopecia areata, and in which I have participated together with specialists from different countries, is a good example of a consensus article in which dermatologists agree through a system of continuous voting to understand what is the best way to deal with diseases that are difficult to treat. To this end, questionnaires are sent to doctors from different universities in Europe, with a series of questions. Respondents answer whether they fully agree with the view and treatment of certain cases. Or if they agree in part or against. The questions are voted on in several rounds until the ones that obtain a consensus are accepted by broad agreement. And where there are discrepancies, the process is repeated with different alternatives until consensus is reached. In this way it is possible to determine and unify the most appropriate treatments for complex diseases in which doctors sometimes act based on sensations and not on scientific evidence. This is often the case with inflammatory or autoimmune diseases.
