The Dallas-based company is putting itself in a position to benefit from swings in #infrastructure funding💸 that occur globally. Simultaneously, AECOM is increasing the amount of work it does in project management and eventually expects this segment to account for half of its total revenue, from current 15% 📊of its net service revenue. This is because there is an increasing need for its integrated consulting and technical services in this era of megaprojects and a labor shortage in the #construction🏙 industry. The company has continued to concentrate on its operations in facilities, water environments🌊, and transportation🚌, particularly in areas where it can use its consulting experience. Investments in ♻sustainability construction sector over the long term are just getting started. AECOM and Atkins among firms picked for £100m framework Five top #consultancy firms have been awarded #contracts valued up to £100 million to help deliver a raft of #infrastructure projects across several #localauthority areas. AECOM, AtkinsRéalis, Ramboll, Stantec, and WSP have all secured a place on West of England Combined Authority’s (WECA) renewed professional services #framework, spanning approximately four years. The suppliers will support regional infrastructure delivery set out by #WECA and its members, by providing #research and #development (R&D) and related consultancy services as well as works under these categories: 💬 Market and economic research; polling and statistics 🌿 Environmental services 🌊 Consulting services for water-supply and waste consultancy 👷♀️ Construction consultancy services 👷♂️ Consultative engineering and construction services 👩💻 Project management consultancy services Initially, it had been WECA’s intention to award up to six suppliers a place on the framework instead of five. Procurement was through the combined authority, working in collaboration with Bristol City Council, North Somerset Council, South Gloucestershire Council, and Bath and North East Somerset Council. The framework can be utilised by all UK public sector bodies, including local authorities, health, police, fire and rescue, education and devolved administrations. Use of the framework by these other bodies will be through an access agreement issued by WECA. AECOM, AtkinsRéalis and WSP were on the previous version of the #framework which ended at the start of the year and was launched in 2018. “Each #supplier is expected to have #multidisciplinary capability or access to deliver the contracts/work packages granted under the framework agreement,” WECA had previously stated. The estimated date for delivery is June 2028. Image Credit: Credit: Tom Fisk (Pexels). https://lnkd.in/eW349N6Z

AECOM exceeds its South African targets as it takes on more global workhttps://lnkd.in/eym7rCYF trusted infrastructure consulting firm AECOM is on track to exceed its targets for the current financial year, according to Globally trusted infrastructure consulting firm AECOM is on track to exceed its targets for the current financial year, according to Darrin Green, Africa MD. “It has been really good in terms of the numbers. Our strategy is to diversify and work more for the global business because the local market is so challenging.” Green adds: “On the local front, we focus on key clients and global clients that we already work for. We also look at projects of scale and complexity rather than the run-of-the-mill stuff because we are not really set up to do the smaller work. We are a business that is geared to carry out the big projects.” Another indicator of AECOM’s ongoing success is a 30% increase in head count over the year, “which in our market is pretty unheard of.” Emigration, however, remains a problem, with the company losing on average two professionals a month to greener pastures abroad. “If you extrapolate that across the entire industry and our low number of engineers per capita compared to elsewhere, it tells a story,” says Green. Bringing in a lot of new people at once poses the challenge of ensuring they fit in with the AECOM corporate culture, but it also injects new ideas and energy into the business. “Our expansion into other markets and working for the global business all over the world has brought a lot of opportunity and different exposure for our staff in terms of working on exciting international projects. It broadens their horizons, capabilities and opportunities.” AECOM continues to accelerate its digitisation and automation journey, which it had already embarked upon pre-coronavirus. “We were fortunate in that we started perhaps ahead of others locally. I really can say that our South African team is ahead of other parts of the world on the digital front. Digital is a major trend and growth area.” Green adds that AECOM remains at the forefront of this trend globally, with members of the South African team forming part of its global digital hub. “We are playing a direct role in developing some aspects associated with BIM, which is a bit of a misnomer in terms of digital. The cutting edge at present is computational engineering and parametric design, really a subset of digital. We focus on that quite heavily, which to some extent is automation,” explains Green. He reveals that AECOM is both investigating and investing in AI. “There are still some drawbacks before it will be widely adopted, like liability issues around verification of information. It certainly is a powerful tool and much more specific than a search engine. It is ideal to organise information and generate reports, but we hav

Welcoming Rachel Nicholls, Principal Arup and Natalie Muir, Regional Director Environment & Geosciences Stantec bringing a wealth of experience to the Consult Australia Board. Read more in this issue of Consulting Matters: “Resource shortages are the biggest challenge in our industry at the moment,” says Natalie. “Ensuring we have the people to deliver projects already on the books is a major concern as the industry faces so much uncertainty.” For Rachel, a key focus is on creating a more sustainable project pipeline. “We have seen a focus on major project delivery over the last 10 years, combined with major skills shortages, but the industry is also in a huge period of growth.” “As we are moving into a future of uncertainty, how can we deliver better, more sustainable growth in a way that doesn’t sit in the ‘boom-and-bust cycle?” Read more as Rachel and Natalie reflect on the opportunities ahead... https://lnkd.in/gVQfj-jn
