Can we talk relocation for a sec? As a job seeker, I'm not interested in exclusively working remotely. I'm a neurospicy individual with three kids, two dogs, and a consultant husband. Sometimes my house is a safe haven and other times it's the "Overstimulation Station". I'd like to have the option to head into an office, change the scenery, and engage with people who didn't grow inside of my body. However, sometimes roles aren't local and I'm trying to figure out how to wave a flag that says "open to relocating (with or without support)!" Although it's listed in my resume, I'm still getting near-automatic feedback that I'm not a good candidate for a role because I'm not geographically located in the region. Is it an excuse or is there a real way to let hiring managers know that you'll drive to Philly every two days if the job is *that* aligned? What do you think? How can I communicate my willingness to relocate to hiring managers without compromising my chances of landing the job? Any advice is greatly appreciated! 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝗽 𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗿: 💵 Budget Constraints: The organization might have a tight budget, limiting its ability to financially support relocation. 🥈 Role Priority: Perhaps the position isn't considered critical enough to warrant the extra relocation expense. 🐔 Commitment Test: It could be a strategy to gauge a candidate's dedication to the role and the company by seeing if they're willing to make a significant personal investment. 🏠 Local Talent Preference: The company might believe there's a sufficient talent pool locally, reducing the need to attract candidates from afar. Relocating without support is a significant risk, involving not only financial strain but also emotional and logistical challenges. It could have profound implications on personal life and career trajectory. Today is all about people….all the wonderful people I have met over last 15 years in Global mobility industry and connections I’ve made. These are the people I can count on for support, encouragement, recommendation now when I’m looking for a new opportunity. From colleagues to client contact, I appreciate all the friendships and kind words. I remember telling my “buddy” and team senior when I started in the industry “how do you expect me to explain something if I don’t understand” 🤷♀️I used to ask questions about policy intent and trying to stretch grey areas to provide services I knew transferees could benefit from. I loved to challenge them with what if scenarios 😆 They helped me build my foundation for the expertise I could provide later working with great corporations and managing their programs. I remember all the fun conversations we had with my client contacts ❤️ North America Program Lead used to call me MC and we used to joke it stands not for Monika Cain but MC Hammer because of the song “can’t touch this” - no one could touch me because I always had the answer or a solution to a problem 😆I used to take client calls on my personal cell after hours while cooking dinner as he needed my advise. We are still FB friends.  Just recently, I received a personal recommendation email from another client contact who leads VMO team for a tech giant when we partnered on running their program. Strangers who after reading my posts on LI message me to offer help and word of encouragement. I had two zoom calls with Mobility Leads looking over my resume and just having a conversation. As much as I appreciate my family’s support, it’s all the great people I mentioned above and many more that know my work ethics, my skills and what I’m capable of.
