🌐 Just published: "LoS Sensing-based Channel Estimation in UAV-Assisted OFDM Systems" on arXiv (2404.02162v1). This letter explores an innovative LoS sensing method to detect the presence of LoS path in UAV-assisted OFDM systems. 27 – A look through the keyhole – 💥 Here we are looking into the inside of what happened during a bird strike on a carbon composite leading edge. 🛩️ The integrity after impact was maintained - however, several damages were observed like the obvious local penetration where this cut view goes through. Around the penetration you see delamination of this RTM built integral structure. Furthermore, on the spar behind the point of impact have sustained with partly a damage. Visible on the top left of the picture. The leading edge was part of a composite flap structure. Flaps and high-lift systems are a long-standing research topic at #DLRBT. Earlier we contributed to the development of a composite multi-spar flap (CMF). That was within a German publicly funded (LuFo) project with a consortium led by Airbus in Bremen. Design concepts, bird strike simulation, full-scale impact testing, NDT techniques were our topics. The work was based on specimens up to full-scale flap segments. Great success for the 11th edition of the Contact Mechanics International Symposium (CMIS) on last May 22-24 2024 in Lyon! Our assistant professor Dr. Maria Rosaria Marulli presented a very recent contribution on an enhanced version of our eMbedded Profile for Joint Roughness (MPJR) interface finite element, which enables for the first time finite element contact mechanics simulations at the nanoscale with friction, adhesion and viscoelasticity in the presence of roughness.
