*Transition Time* I am walking across a bridge many of us have known - from one job to another, from one city to another. I am going to take some time - a sabbatical/personal leave - to consider my options and how I want to approach my career and service moving forward. I am curious and inspired to explore opportunities with organizations that uplift the human experience via funding, capacity-building and technical assistance, engagement, research, or advocacy: disruptors, pioneers, innovators, problem-solvers, change makers. I've got an uncanny knack for identifying gaps and inefficiencies, connecting the dots between seemingly unconnected variables, and foreseeing what's on the horizon (big picture) while developing equitable, effective resources and tools to realize the full potential in almost any situation. I am focused on collaborative, visionary, and leadership positions, but open about the role or title, as well as the focus of an organization's efforts. I hold the conservation and the environment, arts and culture, public health and welfare, and systems and structural change near to my heart. THE WORLD GETS SMALLER AS YOU GROW BIGGER. 💁♀️ This is my perspective after listening to my senior manager share his recent life updates. He met a business owner who could be our potential client at an event, and it turned out they were friends of a friend. Small world! 😍 What an amazing coincidence. 😍 🙋♀️ This isn’t the first time I’ve heard stories like this. As a recent graduate and entry-level professional, it's unfamiliar to me to have friends or family's connections who are decision-makers at big companies. My takeaway from being a passive listener who silently admires others' meaningful connections is to remind myself to 💪 "trust the process" 💪 stay gritty and resilient 💪 remain humble 💪 and continue learning and growing silently. To all my silent fellows who resonate with me, you’re not alone. We're in this together. Let me share my career journey since COVID. I held positions with 2 organizations before 2020, but left due to lack of growth potential and relocation. I started my first remote role and liked the flexibility it offered, then I was unjustly let go from the organization which was small organization with questionable practices # 1. Working in COVID response highlighted the funding instability and burnout in such roles. Seeking satisfaction, I explored different positions, recognizing the importance of aligning values in the workplace. My experience with government contractor corporations revealed issues of cultural insensitivity and performative allyship. The corporate environment often prioritized efficiency over meaningful connections, fostering a disconnect. Then, I found a research and evaluation company that aligned with my values, where I could contribute meaningfully, shape the organization, and experience a close-knit team dynamic. Excited to invest my heart and skills in a fulfilling role I accepted a position. The experience began to unravel rather quickly (small organization with questionable practices # 2). I had since returned to corporate and governmental roles and right back in the boat I was in. I asked myself yesterday though "why did I give up on the small organization path so quickly?" I had no answer and I don't think there is one. Thus, I am on a mission to find that small organization that values my background in evaluation and dedication to culturally relevant approaches and humanizing the work we do. A place that was everything I thought I was getting before but will actually provide it. My heart needs that role that I know exists out there and I'm hoping that I am able to find it and the organization looking for someone like me.

Today marks a milestone for me - 15 years of living in NYC! When my husband and I first moved here, we only intended to stay for three years. But here we are, 15 years later, with a wealth of experiences and lessons learned. Reflecting on my time here, I wanted to share some lessons, particularly for job seekers: - Don't be afraid to take risks. Moving to NYC was a huge risk for us, leaving behind our settled life in London. But it has been instrumental in our careers and personal growth. - Say yes to opportunities, even if they scare you. In fact, especially if they scare you! Personal growth and development come from those moments. - Nurture your network even when you're not in the job market, and ensure you leverage it when you are. Every opportunity I've had since my first role at Bloomberg has come from people I've worked with in the past. - Your career is long and will not always follow an obvious path. You may be promoted, take a step back, or make a lateral move. But every experience is an opportunity to learn and grow. My own career journey has been full of twists and turns. From working full-time in recruitment leadership roles to being a stay-at-home mom, to contracting and starting my own business, each experience has been invaluable. So, take that promotion, accept the role in another company, take some well-deserved time off, or even move to a new country! Embrace the unknown and see where it takes you.
