Economist Milton Friedman was influential, plain spoken, incredibly intelligent and very FUNNY. He often appeared on television and was widely quoted. He strongly advocated FOR a free market and AGAINST a sprawling powerful Federal government. In retrospect, he was almost always right. Our nation is based upon the principle of #Federalism. This form of government is comprised of a number of smaller, mostly sovereign States which are joined together under a (mostly) centralized Federal government, which is defined and limited by - and subordinate to - the US Constitution. HERE'S MY POINT. We ARE the *United States of America*, NOT the 'Central State of America.' By intentional design, some States (like Florida or Texas) are very different from other States (like California or New York). ALL States enjoy a great deal of autonomy and the right to choose their own directions and policies. IMHO - that is a very good thing. I think that this is a good time to remember leaders like Milton Friedman, Thomas Sowell, Ronald Reagan, Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher. It's also a good time for ALL American citizens to read their own foundational documents like the US Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. LEARN. And then VOTE. In that order. 😉 This is YOUR nation, my friends.

Before 2001 whatever US did was the norm. China followed it and applied it with a Chinese soul. they are hit. Today whatever US does is questionable. If China follows the military strategy of US, they will eventually face the same. All the lessons are right here, out in the open. we do not have to reinvent the wheel or spend billions of dollars to learn the same thing again. #lessons #leadership #peace #economy

Incredible song by Oliver Anthony. https://lnkd.in/gmjpxQqw By now, everyone of you has probably listened to this fantastic song that went viral in the last couple of weeks.  Couple of thoughts: First, the guy is incredibly talented. This song is amazing and I must have listened to it 10 times in a row. Second, as a capital markets guy, I think there are some important takeaways from the song. -         “Your dollar ain’t shit and is taxed to no end” - Inflation is still a massive problem (incompetent Fed who added $5tr to its B/S during Covid #TeamTransitory + out-of-control stimulus spending by both Republicans and Democrats alike.) When the price of food, gas and necessities is up 30-50% over the last 2 years, so-called “disinflation” and 4.1% core PCE doesn’t matter to the American people and is hardly good news (even though it’s being cheered by equity investors).  Prices have permanently reset higher and wages haven’t kept up, and the damage is done – what people need is deflation, not disinflation… And with US budget deficits exploding like never before, it’s unlikely inflation is done causing problems. -         “Overtime hours for bullshit pay” - Corporate profit margins are likely headed lower.   The share of employee compensation as % of GDP is near all-time lows while corporate profits (juiced up by inflation) are near all-time highs. No wonder the media has called summer 2023 the summer of strikes… Teamsters, UPS, and now UAW next…  At the same time, rising wages have the chance of feeding back into core inflation. I wish there were some positive takeaways but outside of the fact that the song is fantastic I don’t see any.  Reining in government spending/getting back on a sustainable fiscal trajectory and hoping the Fed finally gets back to its monetary senses are the only things I can think of. But I am not holding my breath. #Fed #Markets #Economy #Inflation

U.S. WEALTH GAINS AND DISTRIBUTIONS UNDER BUSH, OBAMA, TRUMP, and BIDEN. While awaiting the 2023 full year data from the Federal Reserve to finalize and publish my index on Americans' economic prosperity since 2000, I thought it would be appropriate at this time to share with you my findings on the wealth gains of Americans under different administrations, and how those gains were distributed.
