There are 1.5 million people with learning disabilities in the UK but according to a survey by Dimensions UK (one of the UK’s largest social care providers), 82% of people feel that the voices of those with learning disabilities are not heard by the government. If you have a learning disability or support someone with learning disabilities, Learning Disability England has developed an information pack and template letter that you can share with your local MP. There is also a helpful Easy Read information pack to help with the process: https://lnkd.in/e5_2Wrwj Ahead of the general election on Thursday 4 July, this is a chance to tell your local elected representative what people with learning disabilities want and need to be able to live Good Lives, and how they as politicians can make this happen. We’re encouraging people to write and send these letters as part of the plan laid out in the Good Lives Manifesto. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/edyZ6qjq Good Lives is a clear, action-focused and rights-based framework for transformational change, developed by and for people with learning disabilities. #Support #Healthcare #Collaboration

Learners with disabilities deserve #HigherEducation systems that are accessible and inclusive. More than 30 years ago, the Americans with Disabilities Act (#ADA34) laid the groundwork for more accessible #HigherEd systems, but our institutions and policies still have a long way to go. By moving beyond ADA compliance to truly inclusive and learner-centered design, we can start to close this gap. TODAY: We lay out the path forward for institutions and policymakers in our new research – just in time for #DisabilityPrideMonth and the upcoming #ADAAnniversary! Time is running out for people with learning disabilities to have their voices heard ahead of the general election on Thursday 4 July. So, we are urging you to read and share The Good Lives Manifesto, which asks all political candidates to support their six big aims. The Good Lives Manifesto 2024 was made by Learning Disability England members, with contributions from more than 400 people and organisations on what they think are the most important priorities the next government need to take action on. The manifesto is calling on all candidates standing in the elections to pledge to six things, to make good lives possible for people with learning disabilities. More jobs, housing, reform of the social care system and championing the rights of people with learning disabilities, including people from minority ethnic communities, are all being demanded. You can read the Good Lives Manifesto in long read and easy read versions here: https://lnkd.in/edyZ6qjq Please share the manifesto with others, including your local MP and other organisations, to show what people with learning disabilities want and need to live good lives. #GoodLives #StrongerTogether #LearningDisabilities #Support #Voting #GeneralElection2024
