Today we’re proud to announce Cisco Hypershield, a revolutionary new security architecture designed for the age of AI. With Hypershield, we have reimagined how traditional network security works by embedding advanced security controls into servers and the network fabric itself. Thank you to Jeetu Patel, Tom Gillis and team for the incredible work here!
Chuck Robbins I’ve been in Frankfurt yesterday and saw the full presentation with Dirk Stoeckmann and Roberto Mari.
Your team has done an amazing job. You have nailed the customer need with a use of eBPF!
I agree that there needs to be a new solution design instead of extending old technology to solve old problems.
We have done that long enough. Tear down the walls!
When you can't fix the exploits in time because of necessary maintenance windows, it's great to have a solution to deny the kernel to run the exploits.
Traditional firewalls just had a look at ip, ports and maybe signatures... typical network engineers of firewall engineers have to fix the risk, but from now on you can make it visible (good use for segmentation) and give developers the power to fix the risk themselves.
I also like the way of shadow flows for testing patches ... this reduces the risk of any impact of a patch.
Can’t wait to look under the hood andtry it with OEDIV Oetker Daten- und Informationsverarbeitung KG in a test Environment
Exciting news and collaboration between two of our primary partners. We are here and ready to assist with the Cisco AI Skilling and certification training 🚀🔥👏
Ptdr hyershield ??? What's that ?
A Shield IS by définition there to not be attacked by Hackers...
Waouh your equipment IS connetted to Internet ?!?!?
What's this .....
Difficult to protect you and customers...
A hyperdhield, can't do this.
Best regards
This is ground breaking and only the beginning for the innovation that Cisco is bringing to market. Welcome to the new world of advanced, secure networking.
Chuck Robbins thanks for sharing. Is this new security system AI driven? I'm wondering how a non-AI system can cope with handling AI threats - because AI threats are very smart and dynamic.
Rethink your security architecture ❗️
On Thursday it was my pleasure to be at the announcement of Cisco#Hypershield in Frankfurt.
Is it the next new shiny thing or the next big thing 🧐?
As you know, I am a network architect. All day long I have to deal with the challenge of segmentation and security 🤓
Today, we have to think about connections between hundreds of servers before users connect to their applications🥵
The application owner often doesn't know all the communications in between, which makes it really hard to do any kind of segmentation, and the behavior is dynamic 🥳
When there's a new exploit, the time to patch is short and it's always a challenge to find a change window to do the patch, and even if you do, it's kind of risky for production as well.
Using the extended Berkeley Packet Filter (eBPF) sounds like a new area of observability security. It is like a little virtual machine that you can put in the kernel. It gives you the toolset to prevent traffic flows, but also to prevent anything else from running on the host.🤩
If there's an exploit and you can't patch the system as quickly as you want, you can prevent the exploit itself from running until you can patch the system. It's like a quarantine. 🚫
Cisco Hypershield is a security architecture that takes advantage of eBPF, whether it's a host in the private cloud, public cloud, or even on Kybernetis.
I can't wait to get my hands on it at OEDIV Oetker Daten- und Informationsverarbeitung KG and see if it really does what it looks like.👍

Today we introduce the most consequential security product in Cisco's history: Cisco Hypershield. It’s a cloud-native, AI-powered approach to highly distributed security for AI-scale data centers that’s built into the fabric of the network.
Part of the Cisco Security Cloud, Cisco Hypershield literally turns the network security model upside down, bringing the power of hyperscaler security and connectivity to the enterprise.
Today is an exciting day for Cisco, as we officially launch Cisco Hypershield. It is not the next generation of something that already exists, it's the first generation of something new. We're creating an entirely new class of functionality leveraging the whole Cisco portfolio. Cisco Hypershield will be the architecture that defines security in the network, for the next generation. Read more on Cisco Hypershield and why we built it in my blog.
I've been doing security all my life, and I've never worked on a product as exciting and innovative as Cisco Hypershield. Congratulations to the entire Security team!
AI is transformative and drives huge productivity gains. The engine of AI is the data centre, and it is forecast to grow substantially, over the coming years. The IT industry went through a change like this in the past, when Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google and Microsoft expanded out of the traditional enterprise data centre systems. They wrote infrastructure software and embraced a scale out model where software runs on millions of servers.
They created this code themselves, and the public cloud was born.
To handle massive demand, companies like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google, Microsoft and Salesforce redefined their applications from VMs into highly portable containers that could run anywhere. They did the same for the underlying hardware too, by creating software-defined infrastructure that ran on their servers, rather than firewalls, load balancers and networking hardware in boxes at the edge of the network.
They converted these products into thousands of pieces of software, that included security software, that could run on every server. They spent billions on this development but gained the ability to detect and respond to threats far more effectively, and to update and patch it all with remarkably few people.
Now, every enterprise needs to think about how to get to an “AI-scale data centre”. Traditional infrastructure won’t get there, neither will the security solutions. Your security will need to be in every software component of every application running on your network; on every server; and in your public or private cloud deployments.
Cisco Hypershield brings many of these advantages to the enterprise, for the first time. As the “hyper” in the name suggests, this architecture was inspired by the hyperscale model pioneered by the big public cloud providers. It lets you embed security in VMs or Kubernetes clusters in public clouds, using an open-source technology called eBPF that hyperscalers use to automate patching and other time-consuming jobs.
In the future, security can be inserted into DPUs, and on networking devices such as switches. It will also extend beyond the data centre, typical use cases include hospitals being able to secure its medical devices and other operational technology with Hypershield. Manufacturers will be able to do the same with the tech that sits on the factory floor.
Cisco Hypershield is a generational product that will change the security industry. Built within the Cisco Security Cloud, Hypershield, plus the processing, protection, and data capabilities within Splunk, Hypershield will create a transformative hyperscale datacentre that not only leads the AI revolution but protects it.

Cisco Hypershield is coming!!!
This is probably one of the more important innovations that I have seen because it answers so many shortcomings in cybersecurity.
Leveraging an AI-Native purpose built platform to truly help mitigate and protect against cyber attacks and correlate the data and vulnerabilities across the whole of your network no matter where it is.
That’s incredible!!! To say I am excited about this one is an understatement.
More to come in August!!!

Unveiled today - Cisco Hypershield.
Hypershield is a revolutionary new security architecture and one of the most significant innovations in Cisco's history!
This first-of-a-kind AI-native security solution enables customers to segment their networks autonomously, benefit from distributed and almost instantaneous exploit protection without a patch, and experience self-qualifying software upgrades with zero downtime— solving some of the challenges companies have struggled with for decades.
As Jeetu Patel insightfully remarked: “The power of Cisco Hypershield is that it can put security anywhere you need it – in software, in a server, or in the future even in a network switch."
Incredibly thrilled to see Hypershield usher in a new era of security for the next generation and contribute to a safer world.
