Last night, we had an incredible gathering of the Penn Alum Founders Community - NYC with amazing founders, angels, and VCs. The event brought together Penn Alum Founders, who were actively seeking angel funding from Penn alum and non-alum angel investors. Special thanks to Ben Colman, Reality Defender CEO (YC'22) & Angel Investor, for sharing his invaluable insights on growth milestones, engaging with angel investors, and navigating the startup ecosystem. This time of year, back in 2010, I graduated from Harvard Business School amid a recession without a job offer. Instead, I leaped directly into founder life to start Birchbox. The brave few classmates of mine who did the same ended up being a valuable lifeline as we navigated fundraising, hiring and figuring out startup life together. It's been great to see entrepreneurship become a more trodden path post-MBA in recent years, but I know it can still be a jarring and sometimes lonely transition as your peers go to the relative comfort of finance and consulting life. This summer, I'd love to meet more NYC-based recent grad MBA founders and help folks form the same supportive peer group I had in my early founder days. We're assembling a small dinner series for a select group of recent grad MBA founders in our First Round Capital NYC office over the next few months.
