GET TO KNOW TRISH CARPENTER
Trish has been the City of Charlottesville Office of Economic Development’s (OED) Administrative Assistant for 7-1/2 years. She is the smiling face you see when you visit our office, the friendly voice you hear if you give us a call, and truly the glue that holds the office together. Let’s learn a bit more about Trish!
📣 Describe your role in the Charlottesville Office of Economic Development.
💭 In my role as Administrative Assistant, I support our staff and the programs that we offer. I operate behind the scenes to keep things organized so that our staff can assist current City business owners, up-and-coming business owners, and citizens reach their professional goals. Twice a month I coordinate developing and distributing the OED newsletter so business owners, residents, and other stakeholders can have interesting, relevant information about business resources and trends.
📣 How did you get into the economic development field?
💭 Prior coming to OED, I worked for the local convention and visitors bureau. Because the convention and visitors bureau’s work and OED’s efforts often overlapped, I had a chance to learn about economic development and the ways in which it impacts the community. When an opening became available in OED, I decided to submit my application and was ultimately selected to join the OED team!
📣 What’s your favorite part of working in economic development?
💭 First and foremost, my co-workers! Everyone has such high energy, enthusiasm and passion for what they do for the City, its business owners and residents. Also, just as important, are all the programs we offer to assist others succeed with their business or gaining a specific skill for future success. I feel good at the end of the day knowing the work I do ultimately helps Charlottesville businesses succeed and grow.
📣 Fill in the blank – On my day off you can find me ____________.
💭 I have a number of activities I like to do when I’m not at work. Kickboxing, cuddling with my miniature poodle, sewing, quilting, knitting, reading, baking, and gardening are some of my favorites!
