Today, the City of Charlottesville and Charlottesville Office of Economic Development (OED) and enjoyed a lovely morning on the Rivanna Trail with The Trailblazers. The Trailblazers program is a community collaboration between the City of Charlottesville via our Community Attention Youth Internship Program (CAYIP), The Shenandoah National Park Trust, Rivanna Trails Foundation, Appalachian Conservation Corps, and CHARLOTTESVILLE AREA MOUNTAIN BIKE CLUB. This program functions as a part-time summer trail crew job for older teens in Charlottesville. Participants are paid $15/hour for a 20-hour work week. This summer, a Trailblazers crew of Charlottesville individuals aged 16-18 have been engaging with the outdoors while learning conservation and trail maintenance skills and actively contributing to their community. We hope to empower the next generation of outdoor leaders and champions for public lands, both in their hometown of Charlottesville and beyond. Thanks to OED for providing lunch today!
