There are times in our lives when we have a conversation that forever stays in our memory. For me one of those was a chat I had with the late John Blanksby. He had a
vision about getting rainwater out of sewers, his "NORIS" idea. That's about 15 years ago but I don't think anybody was listening then. They'd listen now I think given the intolerable pressures today on sewer networks and the incapacity of them to accept ever increasing volumes from new development. These concerns will be heightened further with the potential implementation of Schedule 3 of the FWMA, if it happens this time around. The good news is that we can re-purpose at least some popular techologies towards achieving at least in part John's vision. Importantly though, there has never been a more important watershed moment for runoff management, or for key stakeholders to achieve a fundamental joint understanding of how we can achieve real improvements in water management. Its a message I'm taking out to WASCs and LPA's because (as Wales have found out) there is still a hill to climb in terms of changing long entrenched mindsets
