We all depend on nature for our food, air, water, energy and raw materials. Nature and biodiversity make life possible, provide health and social benefits and drive our economy. Nature is also our best ally in tackling the climate crisis. But... we’re currently destroying nature faster than ever. Ecosystems and services they provide are under pressure from urban sprawl, intensive agriculture, #pollution, invasive species and #climatechange. At Conservation Volunteers Australia, we believe we all have a role to play in protecting and restoring nature. And the very best place to start is in our own backyards! Starting a Nature Block creates a small habitat for our local wildlife. You don't need to be an expert gardener ... you can start by planting a few natives in a pot and adding some simple habitat elements such as a water source and some shelter elements like rocks, sticks and mulch. We made it very easy By guiding you step by step While this might not seem like much, if we all did - we’d see a revitalised and thriving environment of Australian native plants and animals. This effort, combined with government and organisational actions, could help conserve biodiversity and thus help achieve the 30% restoration goal. (source: Biodiversity in your Backyard: the future of nature in your hands. By Arup) So get started today! https://lnkd.in/eVsav3Rj

Wetlands are considered the Earth’s kidneys because of their ability to clean the soil from heavy metals to produce potable water. But for most ASEAN communities, wetlands are their lifeline, as wetlands help protect them from storm surges, provide ecotourism opportunities, and serve as a source of livelihood. As we celebrate this year’s #WorldWetlandsDay, we encourage everyone to be on the lookout for sustainable initiatives for wetland conservation that you can take part in. Every action counts in saving the Earth’s most threatened ecosystem! #worldwetlandsday2024 #WeAreASEANBiodiversity #ASEANBiodiversity #aseancentreforbiodiversity

Happy World Wetlands Day! 🌱🐍🐀 Did you know that the Hotel Verde team are custodians of a wetland on our premises? We take care of this precious green space, and have put in a lot of work to rehabilitate it since we were awarded custodianship 💚 World Wetlands Day is celebrated every year on February 2nd to raise global awareness about the significance of distinct ecosystems. It also marks the date on which the Convention on Wetlands was adopted in Ramsar, Iran in 1971. Wetlands are of vital importance because they are: 💚 Biodiversity hotspots 💚 Freshwater stores 💚 Carbon sinks 💚 Source of livelihood This year's World Wetlands Day theme is "Wetlands and human wellbeing", highlighting the urgent need to prioritise wetland restoration. A good place to start is to educate yourself about these amazing green spaces & what they mean for our interconnected world. 🌍🌱 Remembering a Landmark Environmental Achievement: #OnThisDay 🌿🌟 . On this day, August 31st, in 2016, a historic moment in environmental conservation took place – the expansion of the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument in Hawaii. 🌊🏞️ On this significant day, the marine monument's boundaries were expanded to encompass over 582,578 square miles, making it one of the largest protected areas in the world. This expansion aimed to safeguard precious marine ecosystems, critical habitats, and vulnerable species, while also contributing to ocean health and biodiversity preservation. This event serves as a testament to the power of collective efforts in conserving our natural resources. As we remember the expansion of the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument, let's find inspiration in the positive impact that dedicated environmental conservation can have on our planet. Let's continue to work together for a sustainable future and ensure that the legacy of protecting our environment lives on for generations to come. 🌍🌿 #environmentalconservation #marineprotection #biodiversity #sustainability #Inspiration #agriculture #environment #marineconservation #hawaii

Protected areas have been the heart of the National Trust for the Cayman Islands' environmental programme for over 35 years. Currently, the National Trust protects 6% of Cayman’s natural environment. Our goal is to safeguard 11% of our vital ecosystems across all three islands. Critical natural habitats include mangroves, ancient forests, and other vital areas of land across our three islands. These environmentally sensitive parcels of land are key to the survival of our endemic wildlife, supporting biodiversity and ensuring a positive future for generations to come. @blueiguanaconservation @biodiversitychallengefunds #protectedareas #conservation #lovenature #environment #habitats #protectwhatyoulove
