Parkmen: A Collaborative Effort Driving Community Engagement   ADVIER is proud to be co-creator of Parkmen (parkmen.nl). Parkmen is a serious play on the well-known Pacman game and is an inspiring example of collaboration between residents and local government. During this engaging game, residents come together to discover what truly matters. Valuable conversations emerge around safety, health, mobility, and social interaction, through cheerful and interactive discussions about parking spaces, alternatives to parking on doorsteps, and redesign of public spaces. The game can be played by residents, residents' associations, and municipalities to clearly identify community needs, making it a versatile tool for participation across different domains. ADVIER and our partners are still evolving the game. Efforts are ongoing to translate the outcomes further into tangible improvements for neighbourhoods, ensuring residents can better experience the impacts and share their preferences. This weekend I had the pleasure of checking out San Diego's newest public park in Mission Valley: River Park. The site has 2 huge grass areas large enough for multiple sports including soccer, football & rugby, surrounded by a 2 mile loop that's great for hiking or biking. The hardtop courts support four basketball hoops, including two half-courts and a full court, as well as pickleball. There is also fitness equipment, plus concrete table games, which can support soccer pong. A corn hole designated area is also available. The playground is designed for children 2 years old and up, the playground includes a rope climbing tree and play structures with slides and monkey bars. A few jungle gyms for the kids, child rockers, climbing poles, a large swing and 2 slides. The playground is designed with two tiers — one for older children and one for younger — connected by a safe-play slope, offering different challenges for kids. The park is open from dawn until dusk and is owned by San Diego State University, so be sure to pay close attention to the posted parking signs. Parking enforcement was out on Saturday giving tickets when I was there. A few things I think are also important to know: •All street parking is either metered or time-limited. Parking in the stadium lots is not allowed. Certain parking areas will be closed to the public when there is a stadium event. •No smoking of any kind. •No alcohol of any kind. •Dogs must be leashed and under the control of the owner at all times. throughout the park, including walkways and trails. Please clean up after your pet. •Groups of more than 49 persons must obtain a permit to hold or participate in any celebration, parade or special event. Contact [email protected] for more information. •it is unlawful to possess any cup, jar or container made of glass and used to carry or containing liquid. •The San Diego River is not accessible via the park. The river is a protected riparian zone. (I definitely noticed some stormwater structural BMP's on-site) It's great to see developers investing in outdoor spaces for all to enjoy. This seems like a huge waste of funds. They should be talking more about getting the Savannah Bananas to open the new baseball field at the park, than this. If you don't know who they are, look them up on youtube, pretty much Harlem Globetrotters of Baseball. So, how many events and what is the attendance like at those events that are held at the current pavillion? Will this build take over as the meeting places, of meetings that are held at Grand Pointe, the old cinema building, RESA or Dils Center? How accessible to the public is it going to be? What activities are going to be available their for the general public? Is it going to hold events about Cancer, suicide, addiction/OD, mental health stuff every weekend? Although I do support that, that is just depressing, not so fun and exciting. Is it going to have events that are political in nature or politicized, that will fill the gaps of the more depressing events. The only legitimate concern mentioned was green space, but that is irrelevant as long as it doesnt look esthetically unpleasant 1, 2, 10, 20 years down the road. The building does not seem like an appropriate use of $13mil. When what we do have isn't utilized or poorly advertised. I would go to these meetings, but they are poorly advertised in advanced (wonder why...) to express my concerns regarding feasibility and appropriate use. Foot traffic from political stuff and photo ops for those few that are in the news weekly, for all the good they do all the time, is not appropriate use.
