Why are strong #downtowns important? 💰 Downtowns have the ability to serve as a city's economic driver, prompting opportunities for future growth and tax revenue generation. It's in places like downtowns that new and small businesses like an #IdasIdea or #MoonRabbit can come and support local families, community projects, teams, and even schools. 🎬 The vibrancy and identity that downtowns provide, define a region's brand by offering historical assets, culture, recreation, civic activities, and entertainment. Where else can you grab a bite to eat at a #Michelin-starred restaurant, see iconic portraiture, and catch a game or live show all within steps of each other? 💪 Downtowns are powerfully #resilient, offering a mix of uses and a variety of resources that make them adaptable and accessible. There's no doubt that the global COVID-19 pandemic heavily impacted downtowns and proved as a pivotal opportunity for center cities to consider the importance of blending uses equitably across residential, commercial, and cultural entities. This connectedness and well-balanced mix of uses, encased with multimodal transportation, not only ensures the sustainability of a downtown, but creates a dynamic atmosphere inspiring authentic experiences that feed into neighboring landscapes like the ones in Golden Triangle Business Improvement District, Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District, NoMa Business Improvement District, Georgetown Business Improvement District, Capitol Riverfront BID, and beyond. We'd like to think that each of these values signify the necessity of investing in downtown and keeping its vital assets in place (and the International Downtown Association Vitality Index can prove it .... https://lnkd.in/e2tUcpFw). #bedowntown #reimaginedowntowndc #washingtondc #dcstrong

St. Louis on the Rise: A City Redefined What an incredible time to be in St. Louis! Catch a City SC win, then celebrate with a post-game drink at Schlafly, a local brewery just steps from the stadium. Even getting home is a breeze – a quick 7-minute drive. Looking for the perfect urban lifestyle? Imagine living in a revitalized loft in Laclede's Landing, just a 15-minute walk from Busch Stadium. Or, start your day with an invigorating yoga session as the sun rises over the vibrant downtown core. St. Louis is shedding its outdated image and embracing a remarkable transformation. Despite facing political challenges, the city is actively addressing past issues. Previously high-crime areas are undergoing exciting redevelopment, bringing new life and a sense of security to neighborhoods. A surge of young professionals is fueling the city's growth, attracted by booming industries in tech, defense, food, and even pet care. It's time to celebrate these positive changes and share what truly makes St. Louis, our county, and our state extraordinary. We need to be louder about our strides. Right now the narrative of our town is being written by distant outlets, strangers to our endeavors, simply based on hear say. Let's become the "Show YOU State" and showcase all that our city has to offer! The Wall Street Journal Morning Brew

Big News, Dunedin, FL Residents - Dunedin City Hall is NOW OPEN! After much anticipation, the doors of the Dunedin City Hall are open to the public once again. The new 39,000-square-foot city hall will be home to nearly 100 city employees who now work out of five different buildings. Our beautiful city now has a fresh space dedicated to serving you better. We've been eagerly waiting to welcome you all, and now the time has come! Location: Dunedin City Hall - 272 Louden Ave., Dunedin, FL Hours: 7 AM - 6 PM Departments and divisions relocating to the new city hall include the city clerk, communications, community development, including planning, code compliance and the building divisions, economic and housing development, engineering, finance, human resources and risk management, information technology, utility billing, the office of city manager and the city commission. The new city hall will also host a more spacious city commission boardroom where the commission, boards and committees will meet. The new city hall reflects Dunedin’s love of art and culture. Visitors will be greeted outside the building by “The See” public art sculpture, created by artist Heath Satow. Inside the building, a mix of works by area artists will be featured. Construction of the new city hall was delayed slightly due to supply chain issues and labor shortages. Nevertheless, construction of the building came in on budget by general contractor Manhattan Construction — $22.8 million, primarily funded by the Penny for Pinellas Fund sales tax from tourism which is reinvested into capital projects with additional contributions from enterprise and revenue sources such as the community redevelopment association, utilities and building permits. The new parking lot and adjacent angled street parking provide 218 parking spaces for public use in the evenings and weekends when parking is in high demand. The building has been designed to include solar power and a standby emergency generator, along with energy efficiencies consistent with the City’s EPIC! Goal of environmental sustainability. The last municipal services building in Dunedin was built in 1966. This building has been designed and constructed to have an estimated lifespan of 75 to 100 years. #DunedinCityHall #NowOpen #CommunityFirst #DunedinFL #NewCityHall #DunedinProud

In any shared living community environment, it’s essential to establish clear guidelines and rules to keep the peace. Parking is, and always will be, a key area of contention for the body corporate, when visitor-allocated spots are often misused by residents for their own convenience. So who is considered a visitor? As the name suggests, visitor parking is available only to bona fide visitors – that is someone who is visiting an owner or occupier within the scheme. While there is often much contention on who are short-term and long-term occupants when it comes to using these spots, any person who resides at the property is not a visitor, even if that person is not listed on the property title or on the lease. How long a visitor can park for may be noted on signage within the complex, or with the scheme’s by-laws. Outside of the obvious reasons like respecting your neighbours and the by-laws of the body corporate, the number of visitor parks in a scheme is actually mandated by the local council as part of the initial development application process. Planners consider the development type and size, its location, local government regulations, transportation options, and environmental considerations to determine the required number of visitor parking spaces. This is the primary reason why residents can't park in them. The body corporate must remain compliant with the original development application, and as such, these spaces must be available for visitors. #visitor #parking #bodycorporatescheme #communityliving

This new strategic approach to reviving downtown Pittsburgh symbolizes a much needed rethinking about our downtowns that puts a much greater emphasis on Central Social Functions (CSFs) than Central Business Functions (CBFs). CSFs are mainly about people living, connecting, playing and having fun. CBFs are more about people working and selling. I am eager to see how this approach will be implemented in Pittsburgh. #Pittsburghcsfs #CSFs #downtowngrowth #downtownrecovery #downtowns https://lnkd.in/e2tajNUW
