The 2022-2023 childcare sufficiency assessment report is now available. It is a survey that compares the number of childcare places available in an area with the number of children who need them and identifies any gaps in the childcare market that need to be filled. Councils are required by law to conduct this survey and publish a report with their findings. This helps parents, childcare providers, and policymakers to plan and improve childcare services in the area. https://lnkd.in/eNgCUcmR

Today we issued a Management Advisory recommending that the National Park Service (NPS) provide clarity and updated guidance regarding the operation of childcare centers on NPS lands. In the course of other work, we learned that Yosemite National Park Childcare Center operates two childcare facilities at Yosemite National Park. We identified what appears to be a lack of clarity regarding the requirements set forth in the relevant NPS guidance. In particular, there appears to be uncertainty as to whether the two facilities must be licensed by California and, if not, what requirements apply to these centers and what entity should enforce those requirements. We made four recommendations to NPS. You can read the full Management Advisory here: https://lnkd.in/giDHPYiW.

A very interesting study. We definitely see when Dads are involved with their child's bedtime routine and setting at the start of the night, what a positive impact this has on maternal sleep. Dads often want to be more involved, but are not sure how, especially if their partner is breastfeeding. One thing families could consider is moving the bedtime feed to the start of the routine and then Dads do the bath, story and bedtime settling. Swapping every few nights so both parents can do the routine also helps. Have you got any dad tips? #bedtime #bedtimeroutine #bedtimefeed
Dads! Do you help put your child to sleep at night? 💁🏻♂️Our study found that 43% of mothers with children under 3 were solely responsible for nighttime childcare. 😴 Higher paternal involvement with nighttime childcare was directly associated with less maternal insomnia symptoms, higher relationship satisfaction 👩❤️👨Better relationship satisfaction mediated the pathway between paternal involvement in nighttime childcare and child and maternal sleep ❌No more excuses, papas! https://lnkd.in/gUWAcRxJ

As long as we have working caregivers, we need quality childcare. Removing childcare subsidies will force parents/caregivers to leave their job, lose their job or reduce their hours at work. Who loses? We all do? Restore the childcare subsidy cut. The demand is growing and our babies and toddlers deserve care, childcare. Share you story: https://lnkd.in/eVkHgQDp

This comprehensive report on childcare shows a drop in childcare places and high increases in childcare costs. It is interesting that they have included the extra costs for parents who access 'free childcare' - this is a particular barrier for lower income parents. It is stark to see the lack of sufficiency of childcare for children with disabilities.
Released today! Days away from the first phase of major expansion to childcare support, our new research reveals a bleak picture for families, with dramatic drops in the availability of childcare places, and above-inflation rise in childcare costs.
