Celebrating Public Works Week in Vista! 🌟 The City of Vista is thrilled to join the national celebration of Public Works Week, from May 19th to May 25th. In 2023, our incredible Public Works Department tackled over 6,800 graffiti incidents, planted more than 100 new trees, power washed nearly 200,000 ft² of sidewalks, and repaired damaged sidewalks and deteriorating asphalt. Their dedication also brought new life to our parks with playground resurfacing and other essential improvements. This is just a glimpse of the hard work our Public Works team puts in daily. As we celebrate Public Works Week, we extend a heartfelt thank you to each member of our team. Your efforts keep Vista beautiful and running smoothly. On behalf of our entire community, thank you for everything you do! 🙏 #PublicWorksWeek #VistaCA #CommunityPride #ThankYouPublicWorks

Furthering United Way of Greater Charlotte's mission to solve economic mobility and racial inequity through place-based and grassroots solutions by securing funding and management of grants.
Great idea! Reshaping the rulebook is how we move forward and progress into making more open, inviting and fun spaces for everyone.
Before I created this rock-star tiny human, an all-star team and I created Can Do Signs, flipping the script of negative government signs and inviting people to be playful in places they love! We had (and of course still have) a lot of fun. I was so excited to see the new placement of this one near my favorite playgrounds on the greenway! Taking this post to both LinkedIn and Facebook in the name of joyful placemaking and sustainability + another opportunity to showcase my “little why.” #greenways #candosigns #urbandesign Monica Carney Holmes Erin Chantry Catherine S. 🌳 🏙 Imagine wandering through a vibrant street market, lounging in a serene park, strolling along a bustling riverwalk, or discovering community in a welcoming center. What unites these experiences? They represent the mosaic of public spaces that breathe life into our cities. These arenas are crucial for the wellbeing of every urbanite, yet they often fall short in inclusivity, failing to embrace the full spectrum of social groups. Principal Jared H. Press spoke as a panelist at Project for Public Spaces’ 4th International Placemaking Week conference, highlighting how Prince George's County, Maryland is using a vision grounded in placemaking to drive equitable economic development along the Blue Line Corridor. The County adopted a forward-thinking approach by identifying key public investments in multimodal infrastructure, public anchor institutions, and placemaking through programming and activation to attract private investment in dense, mixed-use, transit-oriented development. Panelists highlighted how, unlike urban settings, suburbia often lacks natural spaces for community gatherings, making it challenging for residents to envision effective placemaking. Yet, the demand for such initiatives is strong. The successful implementation of such long-term initiatives requires a clear and coherent vision that serves as a consistent reference point that can endure turnover in administrations, agency staff, and market cycles. Engaging the community in these environments requires innovative strategies and a deep understanding of their unique needs. While the full realization of the Blue Line Corridor vision will take years, the early successes and lessons learned provide a valuable blueprint for other suburban jurisdictions aiming for equitable economic development. #EconomicDevelopment #Placemaking #TransitOrientedDevelopment #CommunityEngagement

🏡 What is Placemaking? 🤔 We're currently engaged in a thought-provoking dialogue about the definition (or lack thereof) of placemaking. It's inspiring to witness the myriad ways in which organizations, individuals and initiatives have embraced and utilized this concept within urban planning. We see practitioners adapting various forms of placemaking tactics to positively influence the unique context of a place - its culture - and the citizens who mold it. This ongoing exploration of placemaking is generating stimulating conversations on how our industry can collectively grow and evolve. 💬 Our approach to placemaking draws inspiration from Project for Public Spaces, who have been shaping this term since the 70s. We stand firmly with the idea that placemaking is a collaborative approach to area development, one that motivates people to collectively reimagine and reinvent public spaces. To delve a bit deeper into our approach, check out the video linked in this post. Here at Plot Twist Placemaking, we are thrilled to be a part of this journey, offering consultation and implementation for such a vital urban planning and community development process. Stay tuned for more insights into what placemaking means to us! 🌟 And, as always, we encourage you to reach out for collaboration! Let’s unite to bring placemaking to life. #Placemaking #PlotTwistPlacemaking

This is fantastic! Big cheers to our #WorldWideWander partners at PlacemakingX. This 19 minute doc, The Place Man, is well worth a watch, about Fred Kent's awe-inspiring work. We totally love this idea that "placemaking is improvisational street performance" and see the role of the imagination, and wandering in a Street Wisdom kind of way, as having a part to play in that. Emphasis on play. https://lnkd.in/dwuuCJGt
