Working with Ken & Craig of Princess Auto Ltd. was one of the many highlights of my time as President of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture.
“CFA & Princess Auto” - is a superb pairing, especially when you consider Princess Auto’s obsession with understanding and responding to the needs of farmers across Canada.
In my opinion, Canadian Ag is best served by members of the value chain with this kind of approach. Primary Ag is the goose that lays the golden eggs for all the links in this chain; from input suppliers (fertilizer, seed, feed, crop protectants, fuel, soil amendments and so on), to agronomists, to equipment dealers, to building/storage suppliers, to packaging suppliers, to packers/processors/dealers, to pallet & tote bag suppliers, to transportation, to legal and accounting suppliers, to HR consultants, to buyers and more. The list is ‘l o n g’.
I believe, of all the businesses that make up each of these links, those who will do the best for the longest, will be those who take a similar tack to Princess Auto’s.
My sense, my advice to the whole value chain, become customer obsessed. Help your customers thrive. Be caring and committed to making their communities stronger.
And my sense is, this approach should be taken by the golden geese too. Farmers & ranchers will benefit if they are able to cultivate and build relationships for the long haul with the folks they do business with in the value chain.
A good friend of mine is known to quote this African proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
This is a powerful concept.
Many thanks to Princess Auto for wanting to go far with Canadian Ag, for seeing the potential Canadian Ag embodies, and for being such high quality people while on that journey.
We are thrilled to see that Mary Robinson, Past-President of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA), has been recently appointed to the Senate of Canada | Sénat du Canada by the Prime Minister.
We are big supporters of Mary and are proud to have worked with her, as she helped us become the first-ever retail partner of the CFA. Her focus on building relationships and leading the organization through change as a result of COVID-19 speaks to her incredible commitment to Canadian agriculture.
Thank you, Mary, for all that you’ve done to support Canadian farmers and congratulations on this new and exciting role!
