Creating aviation/aerospace education ecosysystems with government, industry and education workforce development programs to connect kids and parents to aviation and aerospace career opportunities
This is how we build the Aviation/Aerospace workforce but we need to adjust our thinking. For instance, #skilledtrades stole a jump on #aviation and #aerospace during last year's American School Counselor Association conference. They were there in force with all the #constructiontrades. Meanwhile #aviationexhibitors talked about #pilots and #universityeducation. Guidance counselors start #careerexploration in first grade and the only #aviationjobs they included in their software programs were #pilot #aviationmaintenancetechnician an #aerospaceengineer. Construction trades and their unions pay for the training. "The number of students enrolled in #vocational-focused community colleges rose 16% last year to its highest level since the National Student Clearinghouse began tracking such data in 2018, The Wall Street Journal reported. "The ranks of students studying construction trades rose 23% during that time, while those in programs covering HVAC and vehicle maintenance and repair increased 7%. "Demand for trade apprenticeships, which let students combine work experience with a course of study often paid for by employers, has boomed lately. In a survey of high school and college-age people by software company Jobber last year, 75% said they would be interested in vocational schools offering paid, on-the-job training." So, this article on how #GenZ is rejecting the #collegeroute in favor of the high salaries they will achieve fairly fast in the #skilledtrades, is not surprising. #aviationmanufacturers are hurting for #workforce. https://lnkd.in/e5baF7z3 Aviation Technician Education Council

“Long beset by a labor crunch, the skilled trades are newly appealing to the youngest cohort of American workers, many of whom are choosing to leave the college path. Rising pay and new technologies in fields from welding to machine tooling are giving trade professions a face-lift…” In this impactful article from The Wall Street Journal, many in Gen Z are forging their own path to success by embracing the trades. This piece highlights the diverse paths available and the growing recognition of trades as a surging profession option for the “Toolbelt Generation”. With rising college costs and evolving job markets, the trades offer lucrative opportunities, particularly in advanced manufacturing. The shift is explored as many young individuals opt for vocational training and hands-on experience over a traditional degree. Gen Z is finding fulfillment and opportunity in the trades, and we see it coming to fruition every day. The Apprenticeship Program of Autocam Medical continues to go strong!

A growing trend has been observed in Gen Z as they continue to populate the workforce, gravitating towards trade jobs like plumbing and welding. They are finding lucrative opportunities and stability in these professions, with significantly lower schooling costs compared to community colleges and 4-year universities. With rising tuition prices and the promise of well-paying careers, Gen Z individuals are increasingly opting for vocational training and apprenticeships, reshaping the landscape of the skilled labor workforce. New data: Gen Z is increasingly interested in vocational trades. While there are likely to be many societal benefits resulting from this shift in behavior, it’s also something of a canary in the coal mine for the business model underlying higher education. It’s true that degrees demonstrate a range of skills and perseverance necessary to succeed in a variety of roles outside a given field of study. But as a higher share of students chose alternative paths, greater support towards similar credentials are much needed. My view? More broadly implemented and funded apprenticeships could change this reality of education vs experience from an either-or, to a yes-and. Curious to hear if you agree or disagree. #GenZ #Work #Education https://lnkd.in/eAnAfjzC
