May 17 Statement on Governance in the Sport The #GlobalPickleballFederation is the de facto international governing body for pickleball. By design, the GPF is a not-for-profit organization focused on the integrity and development of pickleball across the globe - from grassroots to recreational and high performance levels. GPF’s unifying function, structure and board are aligned with pickleball’s established continental federations and a valued volunteer network, engaged in growing the sport worldwide. The Pickleball Federation of the Americas, Confederation of African Pickleball, Oceania Pickleball Federation, Asian Pickleball Association, and member countries in Europe are integrated and in alignment with the GPF. The GPF launched after an international task force established an ethical framework and By-Laws that will ultimately lead the sport of pickleball to International Olympic Committee recognition. In an ongoing commitment to perpetuate the growth and advancement of pickleball worldwide, the Global Pickleball Federation 2024 Rulebook serves as the rules of pickleball standard for its 45 member countries and growing. The constant interplay between the GPF with its respective continental and national federations ensures uniform regulations, standards, and the ability to swiftly implement best practices across all levels, thereby maintaining the integrity and quality of pickleball worldwide. One of the main challenges faced by national federations and clubs competing in or organising CEV competitions is the restriction of product protected categories. The CEV holds the rights to several product categories, and even when CEV has no contractual obligations towards potential partners, these categories remain protected and may be released only a few weeks before the competition starts. This timing poses significant difficulties for national federations and clubs, as securing sponsors just weeks before a competition is highly challenging. To address this issue, my program proposes that protected categories should be released one year prior to the start of competition if the CEV has no contractual obligations. This change would provide national federations and clubs sufficient time to negotiate sponsorship contracts effectively. Additionally, the CEV would always retain the ability to negotiate non-exclusive deals if opportunities arise. Furthermore, an audit of sponsorship assets and a review of the commercial structure will be necessary before finalizing the key product categories. By implementing these changes, we aim to create a more flexible and supportive sponsorship environment, ultimately benefiting the growth and success of volleyball across Europe for National Federations, clubs and CEV. #Vote4Volleyball means #Growth4Volleyball! 🏐 👉 Check out my presidental programme at www.rokosikiric.eu

⚽ Competition and Sport: 4,2 m. fine to the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) for abuse of dominant position. 📣The FIGC abused its dominant position in the market for the organisation of competitive youth #football competitions in order to exclude the Sports Promotion Bodies (Enti di Promozione Sportiva) and restrict their activity in the area of amateur football competitions. 🚫The AGCM fined the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) a total amount of more than EUR 4 million (EUR 4,203,447.54). 🔹 The Authority has in fact ascertained that the FIGC has adopted, at least since 1 July 2015, a complex strategy of exclusions to strengthen its dominant position in the organisation of competitive youth football competitions and to extend it also to the amateur-football market, in which it operates in competition with the Enti di Promozione Sportiva (EPS). 🔹 The abusive strategy was employed first and foremost through the FIGC’s failure to conclude the agreements required by the Coni EPS Regulations (2014) for the conduct of competitive activities. This allowed the FIGC to preclude the EPS from accessing the market for the organisation of competitive events, thus guaranteeing itself a substantial monopoly position. 🔹 Secondly, the FIGC used its regulatory power in an instrumental manner, illegitimately considering as competitive the amateur activities carried out by the EPS with athletes between 12 and 17 years of age. In addition, it also imposed for athletes up to 12 years of age (by definition not included in competitive activities) the agreement between the FIGC and the EPS and the pre-authorisation of the event, thus limiting the freedom of Amateur Sports Associations affiliated to the FIGC and their athletes with dual membership to participate in tournaments organised by the EPS. ❗️Winter transfer period 2024 surprises the experts 📉The winter transfer market 2024 in the top 5 leagues in Europe was below the expectations of the experts with expenses of only € 616 million. Compared to the World Cup winter of 2023, transfer expenses even decreased by 43%. Looking at the winter transfer expenditure of the last 10 years, comparable values have already occurred in the past. Nevertheless, due to the record values from the summer of 2023, expectations were different or higher. 👉Particularly striking was the reluctance of the Premier League clubs, which invested only €121 million. The Premier League has tightened the so-called Profitability & Sustainability Rules, which could be a reason for the low investment propensity of English clubs to invest. Nevertheless, we must not forget that the Premier League made record spending in the past summer transfer period in 2023. 🏆Thanks to the CVC funds, the French clubs spent the most of all top 5 leagues for the first time, a total of € 197 million. The funds from CVC are basically not earmarked and could therefore be responsible for the high expenses. ✅In the Bundesliga and LaLiga, spending reached the highest level since 2020, but remained below the record values of previous years. ⚽️An interesting winter transfer period 2024 with different spending trends in different leagues and regions! Free to air rugby at risk… If the IRFU gets its way. The argument against the IRFU lobbying to the Irish government about its plan to designate Six Nations matches as free-to-air is around the fundamental principles of broadening public access to national sports and fulfilling a social obligation, especially when the sporting body benefits from taxpayer funding. The IRFU blazers can’t have it both ways for the following reasons- 1. Public Access and Engagement-Its not just about the money. Its bad for the games future and grass roots with only the rich able to afford pay TV. Designating Six Nations matches as free-to-air ensures that all segments of the population have the opportunity to watch and support their national team, regardless of their financial situation. This can significantly increase the sport's fan base and engagement levels. For instance, the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games are broadcast free-to-air in many countries under similar legislation, which has historically led to a unifying national experience and increased participation rates at grassroots levels. 2. National Unity and Pride-Its one of our few unifying games. Major sporting events have the power to bring together diverse populations. By making Six Nations matches freely accessible, it fosters a sense of 32 county national pride and unity. The 2012 London Olympics provided numerous events free-to-air, and this approach was credited with not only unifying the country but also inspiring a new generation of athletes. 3. Return on Investment for Taxpayer Funding-When taxpayer money supports a sports body, there is a reasonable expectation that the public should directly benefit from such investments. By ensuring wide access to key matches, the IRFU would be fulfilling its obligation to give back to the community that supports it. The Irish government should resist the blazers and stand its ground.
