College Unbound, in the spirit of embracing shared values, deep traditions, and communal gathering associated with Thanksgiving, recognizes that this time carries even deeper complexities in our shared history and holds different meanings for those in our communities. For many, this period is not a celebration of mythical narratives but rather a National Day of Mourning — a solemn occasion to reflect on the historical injustices perpetrated against, and ongoing struggles faced by Indigenous peoples. As a part of College Unbound’s commitment to lifelong learning, we need to create space for truth-seeking and for dialogue about these deep complexities, dialogue that has all too often been overlooked, marginalized, and even silenced. This semester’s Reparations seminar at CU examined higher education's complicity with the land theft to build “land grant” institutions. As we navigate this season and beyond, let us continue to learn, unlearn, and relearn, always striving for a more just and equitable world. Together, we can build bridges of understanding that strengthen the fabric of our communities and promote the dignity and rights of all people — and as a college, we see this collective learning as work we must be committed to explicitly. CALLING ALL EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS! Today, 11/1, is the priority due date for the Class of 2028 online application - including merit-based/specialty scholarships, grants, and financial aid. Please note, merit-based/specialty scholarship applications will not be accessible after 11/1. Eighth grade students who complete the application process by 11:59 p.m. this evening, and sit for the Saint Mark's HS Placement Test (HSPT) on 11/11 or 11/12 will be given priority review. Eighth grade students who meet this criteria may expect a decision letter during Christmas break. Students who fail to meet the criteria listed above will have their candidacy reviewed on a rolling basis with the included clause of a potential waiting list. Kudos to the Texas Success Center and Dr. Martha Ellis for bringing Josh Wyner to the Talent Strong Texas Pathways-Board of Trustees Institute. In a roundtable discussion, Trustees and CEOs discussed how their colleges aligned with the key features of Community College 3.0. Community College 3.0 builds on the previous two interations to foster stronger post-completion outcomes. Community College 1.0 focused on access. Community College 2.0 focused on access and completion. Community College 3.0 focuses on access, completion, and post-college success. Students trust us with their hard-earned tuition dollars to help them realize their goals and dreams. Post-college success means helping students post-completion transfer to a baccalaureate degree-granting institution or use their degree and skills to enter the workforce. #communitycollege #studentsuccess
