Well done The Economist for publishing, why cooking with dirty fuels causes 4 million premature deaths a year in developing countries especially women and children under the age of 5 years. This is one of the big health risks that is often overlooked, I too never believed that cooking with dirty fuels and inefficient cookstoves can actually kill a person, until in 2019 when I lost my grandmother because of indoor air pollution. Since then I made it a life mission with our work at Virgin Green Renewable Energy, to contribute to saving millions of people who are in the same predicament as that of my grandmother. #cleancooking #sdg7 #sdg13 #circulareconomy #environmentalconservation #sustainablebusiness

A third of global GHG emissions comes from the food system. Globally, 25–30% of total food produced is lost or wasted. Our research estimates 10.7 million tonnes of food was wasted in the UK in 2021, 6.4 million tonnes coming from households. To reduce #FoodWaste we need to reduce what is wasted in our homes. Food loss and waste contributes half of the annual emissions arising from the whole global food system. This enormous figure was recently revealed in a Nature Food study—which, among other revelations, highlighted the role of just four nations in generating almost half that amount, along with the surprisingly high emissions toll of lentils and wheat.  Several https://lnkd.in/g3cBMw2j

An estimated 33 percent—some 78 million tons—of the U.S. food supply is wasted every year, including nearly a pound of food per day in every household. This in a country with some 44 million food insecure people. It’s also a climate problem; all the waste generates methane, a greenhouse gas more potent than carbon dioxide. Can’t we just send would-be-wasted food to hungry mouths? Unfortunately, our food system is notoriously inefficient, with waste found on farms, in grocery stories, schools, and our refrigerators. This six-part series, produced in partnership with Inverse, looks at how data, technology, ingenuity, and common sense can be used to fight this waste. With all these ingredients, and a handful of worms, the solution may be within reach.
