Fun Fact Friday: telework and remote are not synonyms! A remote worker can work from anywhere their visas/residency permits them to work. Teleworkers must live within range of an office and have to come in anywhere from yearly to several days a week. I have empathy for all my friends job hunting because it seems like every "remote" role has required days in the office.

Why "Remote" isn't always "work from anywhere." We've been getting some great questions about remote work lately, and we totally get the excitement of wanting to work from anywhere in the world. However, there are a lot of factors into why "remote" isn't always global. 👉 Work Permission and Visas If you've ever wondered why some companies say "REMOTE" but then specify a certain state or country, here's the scoop: Working remotely abroad involves a combination of work permits and visas. Many countries require non-citizens to have a work visa to work within their borders. Obtaining these visas can be a complex, lengthy process, involving legal fees and administrative hurdles. It's a balancing act of costs, bureaucracy, and potential approvals that companies have to weigh against the business need. 👉 Compliance and Taxes The world of employment laws and taxes can be quite confusing. Different countries will have different rules when it comes to employment contracts, payroll, benefits, and taxes. Imagine trying to juggle all these intricacies for employees across multiple countries! Many companies work with third-party providers to handle payroll and compliance, but even then, it's a challenge to keep everyone in the loop without breaking any rules. 👉 Time Zones and Productivity Ever tried to set up a meeting across time zones? Companies often aim for teams to work in sync for smoother communication. However, if employees are scattered across the globe, maintaining real-time collaboration becomes a challenge. Odd working hours can sometimes lead to burnout and impact well-being. If applying to worldwide roles, ask the hiring teams how they handle cross-country work hours. While we're all excited about the future of remote work, there are real-world challenges that companies are grappling with. If you're dreaming of working from another country, there ARE options. Some countries are rolling out digital nomad visas, giving you a chance to stay longer without permanent relocation. Just remember, it's essential to navigate these waters with open communication with your HR and legal teams. The remote work landscape is evolving. Keep searching and applying for that role that sparks your interest. Don't forget to add the job to your FREE Teal Job Tracker! Who knows? The future might just hold a passport-stamped laptop for you. 😎 We'll continue to share remote opportunities and tips to ensure you're showcasing your best self in your application. #remotejobs #remote #jobsearch #jobseekertips #remoteopportunties #workfromhomejobs
