The term "sober curious" used to be a buzzword mostly tied the month of January but it's now a year-round affair - pretty crazy to see how views on this concept have changed in just a few years. Love the interview with Bill Shufelt from Athletic Brewing Co. ---they're a great of example of what can happen when you make a great product. And now they're the top selling beer in Whole Foods Market (alcoholic or non)?? Wild. Also another example of a product that's taken a regular place in my fridge. Actually, it is quite funny that this quote is from Ray Kroc. Ray was certainly not the first. It is often thought that he is the founder of McDonald's. But that is not the case. The McDonald's restaurant already existed when he came in as a seller of milkshake machines. What Ray Kroc was, is the man who made McDonald's big. So yes, he was certainly daring, different and very innovative! As we already said: It helps, but you don't necessarily have to be the first. The timeless ethic of mutuality already resides in our hearts. Our collective challenge is strengthening that ethic and helping it make the journey from our hearts to our brains and on to our hands and feet. From time to time we’ve all experienced our ethic of mutuality in our personal and professional lives, usually when we’ve cooperated with others to achieve a mutually beneficial goal. So, this ethic isn’t foreign to us. Creating the better world we all want to see will have to include integrating the ethic of mutuality into the DNA our business efforts, just as it already is in our hearts. This integration can be done and it is regularly done by some. You are capable of this integration. Part of the work of Better Capitalism is to provide examples of this integration into the DNA of successful and profitable businesses and business models, such as this story about food co-ops. Raymond Albert Kroc (1902-1984). The man who signed up to selling paper cups and milk shake mixers after World War II. That’s until he spotted a diamond in the rough while doing his thing. Well, one day, he bumped into a modest hamburger restaurant owned and run by two brothers Maurice and Richard McDonald in San Bernadino, California. The man was impressed. Being the visionary that he was, Kroc talked the two brothers into franchising their business, and thereon implemented a myriad of innovative business strategies that propelled its growth to levels never imagined by the founders. Still seeing its potential, Kroc went on to purchase McDonald’s from Maurice and Richard McDonald. The rest is history. Today, McDonald's is the world’s largest fast food restaurant chain, present in 100+ countries. Right after Walmart, it’s the world’s second largest private employer and in 2022, the world’s sixth highest in terms of brand value. Ray Kroc, the maverick of fast food, is also known for many legendary quotes. For me, the one that takes the prize (and live by) is this one… “When you’re green, you’re growing. Be a Leader in Life #27: How Preparation can enable Agility   What is the recipe for agility?   Agility to me is enabled by mindset, scenario planning and then great teamwork.   The “Crash the Super Bowl” program has provided me with many learnings and even fits here as well in a story that is not well known.   At a “Chalk talk” presentation on Super Bowl Sunday morning (2007), our Doritos team was very excited to share our 5 finalists for the program. No one would know the winner until the actual commercial aired during the Super Bowl.   After the presentation, I received a tap on my shoulder to go out to the hallway for a moment. There was such a strong, positive reaction to the commercials. Leaders across PepsiCo discussed airing two of the “Crash the Super Bowl” finalists instead of just one.   The game was in 6 hours! How can we make this happen?   Due to planning ahead, our team had given two spots to CBS…. One was the winner and the other finished 2nd and was a backup. We called CBS operations and made the switch to the program schedule…. Sameday. Doritos aired two spots!   “Check Out Girl” aired in the 3rd Quarter and rose to the top of viewer liking and capped off a day where history was made with user-generated advertising on televisions biggest stage.   Agility happened with a growth mindset, some scenario planning and amazing teamwork. #teamwork #leaderinlife #growthmindset #leadership https://lnkd.in/egVg4cB4
