What does a Community Health Worker do? Community health workers (CHWs) are frontline public health workers who develop a relationship with the communities they serve, allowing them to function as a connector between community members and health or social services. CHWs facilitate access to resources and improve the cultural competence of services provided. They work alongside many individual and community developers to deliver and promote community empowerment and social justice. CHWs work in a variety of geographic and cultural settings. Many CHWs have similar or shared life experiences with the communities they serve. Types of Work Environments ▪️Community health centers ▪️Faith-based organizations ▪️Homes ▪️Hospitals ▪️Non-profit organizations ▪️Private clinics ▪️Public health clinics ▪️Public housing organizations ▪️Sponsoring agencies Education and training requirements High school diploma or G.E.D. with additional training. What a does a Sterile Processing and Distribution Technologist do? Sterile Processing and Distribution Technologists are responsible for cleaning and maintaining surgical tools and hospital equipment. It is their job to make sure that the sterilized tools are then organized into trays containing the instruments required for routine or special surgeries. They are also responsible for checking equipment to make sure it is in good repair and up to date. Sterile processing and distribution technologists might also stock crash carts. Types of Work Environments ▪️Hospitals Education and Training Sterile processing and distribution technologists have a high school diploma or a GED. Some have taken courses at a college level or completed an associate degree as well. Cleveland Clinic School of Phlebotomy The School of Phlebotomy course of study is designed to prepare students for the ever-changing field of phlebotomy. Phlebotomists serve a more vital role than ever before in the care of patients due to the increased demand to provide patient samples for diagnostic testing. The School of Phlebotomy guarantees placement for up to 12 students each academic session, with up to four of the students being placed at a Cleveland Clinic hospital or family health center for their clinical experience. Academic Sessions are held three times a year in January, May, and September.
