CO2 and climate change grab the headlines. ... but, as today is Clean Air Day from Global Action Plan, we want to focus on the lesser-known but harmful pollutants: NOx and particulate matter (PM) primarily caused by diesel emissions. Why does this matter? Diesel emissions release pollutants into the air that workers at depots and the public at delivery points breathe in. These pollutants pose serious short- and long-term health risks to people. The unfortunate reality... 48,625 adults die prematurely each year due to pollution. However, by transitioning from diesel to electric, you cut CO2 emissions but also remove tailpipe NOx and PM. Clean Air Day is a reminder to raise awareness about these hidden emissions and to celebrate the companies taking action to reduce their diesel footprint. Big news for the #climate today from the European Commission. The commission has set a new target to achieve a 90% net emissions reduction by 2040. The plan interestingly includes to remove 50 million tonnes of CO2 a year by 2030 and a staggering 280 million tonnes by 2040. It will be fascinating to follow the journey towards making that happen from a technological and practical perspective! PS. The most recent version of the Emission Factors Hub (February 2024) includes updates to global warming potentials (to align with IPCC’s Fifth Assessment), and emission factors for purchased electricity (from eGRID), mobile combustion, upstream and downstream transportation, business travel, product transport, and employee commuting.

Globally, businesses carry the crucial duty of investing in the mitigation of climate impacts.
