Expectations in the runup to #COP28 have not been riding high, but outcomes may surprise us yet. On day one, a landmark deal has been agreed to support the world's poorest and the most vulnerable countries in the face of climate disaster. Business too has a vital role in creating a crack where the light can come in. Not constrained by the short-termism of political cycles, purpose-led businesses can be agile in changing how they operate and then force governments to catch up. In turn, individuals can drive companies to act differently. We all have a role to play. LDA Design is determined to be part of that group of committed businesses and organisations leading on #climate action. Our latest annual CSER report on Corporate, Social and Environmental Responsibility sets out how we are prioritising climate, nature recovery, and health and wellbeing for the communities with which we work. We are committed to carbon neutrality for emissions we directly influence (Scope 1 and 2) by 2025. This is the first commitment of our emerging Climate Action Plan. Climate economy models rely on outdated assumptions. "We’ll need to look at energy models, cities, natural capital – and that is serious, deep economics around structural change." Ahead of COP28, reports highlight a critical issue: our climate economy models are based on outdated assumptions. This could lead to underestimating the economic impact of climate change, hindering effective policy action. It’s time for a significant reform in our approach to include broader aspects like energy, cities, and natural capital, say experts. The Triple Helix Model offers a promising framework for tackling #climatechange, but its success depends on #collaborative action, clear #goals , and a commitment to #innovation , #sustainability , and #inclusivity. By working together, #academia , #industry , and #government can create real-life solutions that address the climate crisis and build a more #sustainablefuture .

Solving the climate crisis in time to preserve a decent quality of life on Earth will by definition be on a geometric curve in both the decline of carbon dioxide emissions and the growth of climate solutions. Fortunately we have Johan Falk and the Exponential Roadmap Initiative for guides. I’m so impressed with how Johan Falk distills complex problems into simple solutions keeping us laser-focused on collaboratively working together to rapidly scale up climate solutions and phase out fossil fuel emissions. The four pillars of the attached “1.5°C Business Playbook v3.0” are to: (1) reduce your own emissions, (2) reduce your value chain emissions, (3) integrate climate into your strategy, and (4) influence climate action in society. In the comments, I will post links to two other equally worthy Exponential Roadmap Initiative publications: the “Greening Cash Action Guide” which was released along with the “Playbook v3.0” at #climateweeknyc2023 and a “Climate Solutions Discussion Paper” released at #COP28 to help us all be on the same page.
