Having had the privilege to speak in vibrant locales like Vegas, Cancun, and Nashville, I've been struck by a powerful realization: growth begins at the edge of our comfort zones. Each stage, from the neon lights of Vegas to the serene beaches of Cancun, and the musical heart of Nashville, has offered more than just an opportunity to share. It has been a platform for exchange, learning, and stepping into the expansive arena of possibilities that our industry holds. This journey has taught me that our voices are our most powerful tools for change. Whether it's a room of ten or a room of hundreds, the act of sharing our ideas, experiences, and visions can catalyze growth not just within ourselves but within our industry at large. So, here's a challenge to my fellow insurance professionals: Find a stage, any stage. It could be a local meet-up, a national conference, or even an online webinar. Share a piece of your journey, a strategy that's worked for you, or a vision for the future of insurance. Let's push the boundaries of what we think we're capable of. Let's elevate our industry by empowering each other with our stories and insights. The more diverse voices we hear from, the richer our collective knowledge becomes. What a fantastic evening!  Some really interesting and eye-opening discussions last night at the iCAN: The Insurance Cultural Awareness Network event; Firstly, thank you to the panel. I am feeling totally inspired to come up with new ideas of how to make a difference! 🌟Echaunti Swan 🌟Shazia Deenally 🌟Huw Evans 🌟Teniola Tijani As someone who recruits for the Insurance sector, I have the opportunity to educate those coming into the industry and ensure no one is going into the market 'blind' or asking themselves questions like "how am I going to fit in?” Moving forward, I am committed to incorporating this topic into every conversation I have. Making candidates and clients aware of what our industry is doing to make a wider culture of inclusivity. Here are a couple of points I have reflected on from last night's discussion; 🌟It's the small wins 'Doing' rather than just 'talking' - This is a really important one. We can all stand here and say "we need to make changes". But if we're not actioning on these points, there will be no change. Make time in the week for a 'learn and lunch' and bring your teams together to discuss this topic. Hearing it from your own employees will be the best Market research - Listen 🌟Leadership Landscape  What actions are you putting in place to make a difference? Mentioned by all members of the panel last night, the agenda is set from the very top - To all MD's and CEO's out there, what steps have you taken to improve Diversity and Inclusion in your workplace? 🌟How do we track the progress of our change? 🌐 Today, I had the opportunity to shed light on a common industry concern that I believe merits discussion here on LinkedIn. This kind of feedback often comes our way, and I've been guilty of bemoaning it myself. However, I've come to view these insights as opportunities for transparency and education. One recurring concern over my tenure has been about "travel charges." It's essential to recognize that these charges are not arbitrary; instead, they play a crucial role in maintaining the high standard of service our customers expect. Factors such as technician wages, fuel costs, vehicle insurance, and various operational expenses contribute to the necessity of implementing travel charges. Without these charges, sustaining the level of service you expect and deserve would be financially unsustainable for companies like ours. While each company may have its unique approach, it's vital for us to communicate the rationale behind these charges. By doing so, we can ensure that we continue delivering top-notch service without compromising our business viability. Lots of things flow downhill – including emails!   On my most excellent adventure I’ve been staying with a very dear, long-time friend. She’s got an amazing job as a flight attendant on corporate jets.    She flies various groups around including senior management when they have to go to different parts of the country.   We were talking about change as she needed to go into the office on her day off to learn about a new system that was being introduced for expense reimbursements. Her choice. She said that this is a regular thing for her and the team as things change in the business constantly due to upgrades or improvements. Whether it’s about insurance, technology, training, safety, process. The list goes on. She said it sometimes feels overwhelming, but being the person she is, she likes to keep up to date. Others are not so diligent.   Hmmm, that’s the business I’m in! Change!   She talked about a trip she took when 10 of the execs were on board. All heads of different departments. They all had their devices out, some had several, so she calculated there were probably 30 devices being used as they were all working enroute.   She was getting ready to serve them breakfast and then she noticed her work phone starting to ‘bing’ alerting her to several incoming messages. When she had a moment, she took a quick look and noticed a long list of emails in her ‘in’ box. All from the people on the plane! Not specifically to her, but they were all staff emails.   She read one and said, thanks Tony. Then another, thanks Susan. Then another, thanks Andrew.  Then another, thanks Julio. They laughed. But it got me thinking about organisational communication and the flow on effect.    Now, in her organisation there are literally tens of thousands of people. So, it’s big! The communication is often about things the organisation wants/needs to communicate like changes to healthcare, updates on various changes, requests for support for charity events, information about diversity weeks coming up. But when our people at the top, don’t co-ordinate, the tsunami of communication, especially when they are all together on a two-hour flight doing emails together, can be overwhelming for our people. No wonder they get sick of change!   What happens in your business?   Is your communication getting cut through and co-ordinated or are your leaders thinking functionally and overwhelming your in-box and brain?   Do you consider the flow on effect? #mostexcellentadventure #effectivecommunication

We ❤️ days in the office! Today, I especially like days in the office because we've had to call a last minute in-person meeting to discuss INNOVATE THIS in September. And that’s because we’re creeping towards FULL CAPACITY! If you had told us at the beginning of this year that, with six weeks to go, we would already be edging towards a full house, I might not have believed you. We've really had to hold our nerve over the last three years. And I can say, hand on heart, we have never compromised on our vision, even if that meant putting purpose over profit. We've been committed to continuing to build THIS together with the #travelinsurance industry, bringing together different voices around the table, and creating a safe space to share knowledge and inspire positive change. And it’s working! It's a unique, intimate, but powerful concept, and we're genuinely thrilled to see both new and our existing attendees joining us again this year. You can build a room full of competitors, or you can fill a room with collaborators. IYKYK 😄 And as you can see, as much as we appreciate technology, we also ❤️ good old paper and pen.
