Alcohol Consumption in the UK - Alcohol still rising as overall inflation falls to 6.8% Alcohol, which is combined with tobacco for the CPI, has risen by 0.1% on the 12-month rate from 9.2% to 9.3% with the monthly rate also increasing by a similar amount. It comes as the cost of total consumer goods fell by 1.7%, illustrating how the drinks, food and hospitality sectors have been disproportionally hit. The largest contribution to annual rises came from food and non-alcoholic beverages (at 1.71%) and the second largest contribution came from restaurants and hotels (at 1.24%). #alcoholicbeverages #spirits #wine #beer #alcoholindustry #drinks

Eating #breakfast earlier got me thinking: If breakfast is key to starting your day right, how does it feel in our current inflationary environment? Turns out, how you experience #inflation can come right down to the type of coffee you drink: #robusta or #arabica. The chart below shows year-over-year changes in the prices of #robusta and #arabica coffees, #bacon, #milk, #wheatflour for pancakes, and #eggs. Among these breakfast staples, only robusta coffee is experiencing year-over-year inflation while all other breakfast items are at least in mild #disinflation. Eggs have gone from an eye-popping 150%+ y/y inflation in 2023-Jan to -40% y/y in 2024-Jan, before the latest reading of -29% in 2024-Feb. So for a dose of #economic #optimism, avoid robusta coffee blends and start your day #happy. Edit: On a slightly more serious note, I believe that the reason robusta prices have outpaced all other breakfast items is because there's a tremendous price difference between robusta and the premium arabica varieties. As #consumer #budgets are increasingly stretched, swapping from the premium arabica to the #cheaper robusta is the easiest solution without giving up their morning #coffee #habits.

Anyone else doing dry January this year? 🙋♂️ Changing consumer trends (Gen Z drinking 20% less than Millenials, and 25% of Gen Z not drinking at all) and increasing costs of alcohol - £7 pints for starters - have led alcohol producers to flood the market with #NoLo alternatives. 📈 Volumes in the non-alcoholic category are expected to grow 25% in the four years between 2022-2026 (per Forbes) indicating there's no sign of a slow down. It's a huge growth segment despite already being an $11bn market. In other words, it's here to stay! 💸 This article in the Grocer covers the rapidly rising prices of #NoLo alternatives. The high price of non-alcoholic drinks is partly explained by volume, but is currently also down to a higher number of (often expensive) ingredients, more processes & the technology needed to produce them. In addition, without alcohol - a natural preservative - NoLo drinks have a shorter shelf-life, impacting on prices at the tills. I'm interested to see in the coming years whether increasing volume & technological development will see prices come down, or whether they will continue to be similar to their boozy alternatives. In the interest of my dry January efforts, any recommendations for non-alcoholic beers would be much appreciated 👀

EAT LESS FAT. Keep your fat intake right downto 50 grams a day. Ideally 30 grams a day. It's roughly 10grams per meal. That's your daily fat budget. So look at the information on everything. You're looking at a back of a candy bar. It's 15 grams of fat. Okay? You can eat it. It's 15 grams. But that's going to be half of your budget for today. If you're looking at any these examples here, think how much fat is in a watermelon, how much is in a pineapple, how much in a banana. The fat will be very low, LOW Fat. #lowfat #lowfatvegan #lowfatfood #lowfatdiet #lowfathighcarb #lowfatrawvegan #lowfatrecipes #lowfattreats #lowfatdinner #lowfatcooking #lowfathighcarbvegan #lowfatricotta #lowfatmeal #lowfatmeals #lowfatrecipe #lowfatbreakfast #lowfatbody #lowfaticecream #lowfatveganrecipes

The sugar sorting stage is one of the stages that must be passed. Choose which sugar is good in terms of quality and which will be ready for market. To maintain trust, we will separate which sugar is good and which sugar is not so good and we will explain it to buyers. So from the start the buyer will know what type of sugar to buy and in terms of what quality. We have shell type sugar and powdered sugar or what is called ant or crystal sugar.. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages... personally, when I drink coffee or tea, I usually use powder... But if you use shell sugar for cooking...

Butter has never been this expensive as a limited world supply has buyers scrambling before the holiday baking season later this year. Prices hit an average of $7,350 per metric ton on the latest Global Dairy Trade auction, surpassing a previous peak of $7,086 in 2022. The auction, which holds its next sale Tuesday, helps set the direction for dairy prices, including the Chicago futures market. Record butter prices come as world dairy processors have been devoting more milk to making cheese, demand for which has been soaring for foods like pizza. Butter, meanwhile, has enjoyed a demand tailwind since consumers started stockpiling more at home following the Covid-19 pandemic. Butter buyers now are making sure they have enough to meet demand for the baking surge for year-end holiday meals and desserts.

Time for an update of the price of my favourite chicken rice set! SingStats reported today that the rate of inflation was 2.7% in April 2024. This is well down from the peak of 7.5% in September 2022. Thankfully, the price of my chicken rice set from the Market Street Hawker Centre remains unchanged at S$6. You might be wondering how the stall owners are able to keep their prices the same despite general price increases elsewhere. Based on the detailed breakdown of selected prices provided by SingStats, compared to a year ago, the price for rice has fallen 0.4%, the price of raw chicken fell 6.1%, lean pork fell 2% (because my set included roast pork), eggs rose 0.9% and cooking oil fell 2.8%. So the cost of most of the ingredients in my chicken rice set actually fell. That explains why the price of the set could be kept unchanged. Even if the price were to rise, its still good value. And if you are wondering about the lack of vegetables in my lunch, there are cucumbers hidden under the delicious chicken.
