Simple Yet Effective: Energy-Saving Stoves Our rural communities largely depend on firewood and charcoal as the main source of energy. As a result, a significant number of trees are cut which speeds up the rate of deforestation. Our efforts to address the challenge of #climatechange is therefore greatly hindered. As part of #climateaction therefore, designing local solutions that are applicable in the rural communities' context is very instrumental. Energy-saving stoves is one of these interventions. The energy-saving stove below is done by C-Quest Capital. The stove does not require you to cut down trees as it uses very small twigs and branches. It also produces minimum smoke and cooks faster than the ordinally stoves. Forest restoration is only successful when you put people first. In Nicaragua, the CommuniTree Carbon Program embodies this ethos. How #Australia has returned “green”? The wide spread land degradation has resulted in man made #desertification after centuries of tiling, and the introduction of non native grazing grasses has taken its toll on the #landscape. However some regions in #Australia are starting to turn this around, transforming large areas of degraded land back into #bio-diverse #ecosystems, by restoring millions of trees and in turn improving the lives for rural #farming communities, as well as capturing over a million tons of carbon to benefit the planet as a whole. This can be considered a major accomplishment for any country, particularly one that has a low average rainfall of 16 inches per year. In this video we will show you how a 200km long green corridor will connect 12 nature reserves across a 10,000 km².

**Citizens Rally Against Wind Energy Development on Burin Peninsula** A group of concerned citizens is raising awareness about the potential impacts of wind energy development on the Burin Peninsula. Last week, they organized information rallies and door-to-door canvassing to educate communities about the proposed projects. NTV's Ross Tilley reports on the community's concerns, highlighting the need for legislation to protect residents and the environment before any wind energy project is approved. Brenda Lee Kitchen emphasizes the importance of proper regulation, stating, "Any industry coming to our island must be done properly. We can't have companies calling all the shots." Residents fear for the future of their ecosystem, citing threats to water, wildlife, tourism, and fisheries. Although jobs are promised, the community remains skeptical. In Frenchman's Cove, a survey revealed that 90% of respondents opposed the project, misunderstanding its scope and impact. The citizens urge the government to listen and involve the public before decisions are made. 🌎 Introducing the largest blue carbon project in the world! 🌳The Delta Blue Carbon #mangrove restoration project, in the Indus river delta in #Pakistan, is the largest blue carbon project in the world. The area is one of @worldwildlifefund 's "200 Ecoregions of crucial importance" and falls within the '#GreenRoute' important for #migratorybirds. 🐟Between 1950 and 2000, human land use pressures and industrial activity destroyed the biological productivity of this #wetland area, increasing vulnerability of the local biodiversity and people (mangroves play a crucial role in reducing the damage from coastal storms and flooding, and create habitat for rejuvenating #fish stocks). However, the project is turning this around and has already restored 86,409 hectares, creating 21,000 jobs in the process. As a Brazilian teenager, I witnessed a poignant moment in #Brazil's #conservation history: the destruction of Sete Quedas, the planet's most majestic waterfall, in 1982, drowning in the Itaipu Dam's construction. Sete Quedas, a group of 18 waterfalls standing at 114 meters, was not only a natural wonder but a symbol of power, with a flow exceeding that of Niagara and Victoria Falls. While the government justified this colossal environmental loss as necessary to power many Brazilian homes with #cleanenergy, humankind lost one of its most breathtaking natural wonders. I can't help but think there was a better alternative to this plan. We must carefully balance our #energytransition with #conservation. What is the right mix of #transmission, #energy projects and #preservation, and how can we navigate this transition wisely? Whilst reducing #carbonemissions is crucial, we must also protect our #ecosystems, #biodiversity, #farming and #agricultural advantages. As a resourceful nation, we can deliver great clean energy projects to build a better future, while avoiding negative environmental impacts. Developers and the government must account for the sentiments and aspirations of regional communities and farmers, rather than underestimate their perspectives. SN Aboitiz Power Group has signed a memorandum of agreement with the National Power Corporation (Napocor) for the adoption of a 1,000-hectare watershed area. The agreement covers the preservation of the 2.5-km area around the Ambuklao and Binga reservoirs and includes forest fire protection, rehabilitation and restoration activities, agroforestry, and riverbank stabilization. By advancing such endeavor, it was highlighted that it is not just biodiversity that is being preserved, but the well-maintained watershed systems can also contribute to the efficient and sustainable operations of the hydropower facilities.
