The WNPS experimented on a Light Repel System (LRS) for the past three years which has yielded satisfactory results in 6 districts, at 24 locations. “Currently, we have an 82% efficacy rate for the LRS. We are in the process of compiling a ‘white paper’ so that we can publish the results, and pass on the concept to the government as another effective tool for conflict mitigation." WNPS is also experimenting with a collar system, again working with the ETH of the DWC, to understand if we can use this collar to provide an early warning system to mitigate conflict between villagers/farmers and elephants. The second ‘animal’ post from the news today. Examples of (potentially) high consequence, low incidence (as opposed to slips, trips and falls (usually) being low(er)* consequence, higher incidence. Risk Assessment and understanding what to put into a risk assessment, specific to your location, activity, group, distance to definitive medical care etc. In some places or undertaking some activities, animal contact could be higher incidence, high consequence. Will you join in with our National Day of Action Against the Cull on Tuesday, 3 September? WHY JOIN IN? Badgers urgently need our help as intensive badger killing begins again in September. We must come together in a powerful display of unity to call for the new government to end the cull now. Over 50% of newly elected MPs are completely new to their role. Returning MPs could be either in or out of government for the first time in 14 years. NOW is the time to engage with them about ending the badger cull. Your MP has an opportunity to ask for a policy reset and stop the terrible slaughter of badgers in the badger cull— the biggest assault on native wildlife in our lifetimes. But you need to help them make the right decision. We have the science and knowledge they'll need — as their constituent, you have the power. Let them know you want them to represent your views and end the cull now before it's too late for badgers. WHAT CAN YOU DO? You can join us and other wildlife organisations outside Parliament in London from 11am on Tuesday, 3 September for a peaceful, legal demonstration followed by a mass lobby of MPs from 1.30pm.
