Meet Gretchen Raynak, Coforma’s newest Senior Product Designer! Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, Gretchen’s professional journey in UX and visual design began in Portland’s outdoor recreation industry, reflecting her deep love of nature. It's cliche, but believing in your own abilities can be the way you get your next promotion ⭐ Senior Designer, Jess Aston shares that it's not about pitting ourselves against others, but knowing what we bring to the table as individuals that makes us stand out: "I think that often we put ourselves up against our colleagues a lot, but actually we all have our own strengths and we all come from different backgrounds and different points of view." #WomenInTech #DigitalProduct #ProductDesign

It's with a mix of sorrow and a raised eyebrow that we bid farewell to InVision, a once-pioneering force in the digital design realm. As you close your doors, we can't help but reflect – with a tinge of irony – on the twists and turns of the tech world. Invision, you showed us all how to start a revolution... and then seemingly decided to sit back and watch it pass by. As the digital design industry leapt forward, embracing new trends and technologies, you seemed more content to reminisce about the good old days rather than create new ones. Your journey has been a fascinating lesson in the importance of continuous innovation. You've become a cautionary tale that even the brightest stars must keep moving or risk fading away. It's almost poetic, in a #SiliconValley, #TechSavvy sort of way. As you transition to whatever comes next, remember this: staying still is the fastest way of moving backwards in a rapidly changing world. We'll miss your once-cutting-edge platform, but we're also excited to see what lessons you'll take into your next chapter – if there is one. So, here's to Invision – may your story be a reminder to us all that in the tech world, you either innovate or become a well-designed, user-friendly footnote in digital history. With a wink and a nod,

I had an awesome time speaking at UX Crunch "Designing Beyond Accessibility" by Iconic Agency (Previously Tech Circus) at Fora last week. Exceptional organisers (thank you Myles McMorrow and Luke Reed), welcoming venue and staff, and a brilliant #community. What I took away: 🦺 Designers and researchers would like to know about the techniques to take care of themselves when moderating sensitive research (safeguarding) 🧑💻 People are interested in learning about moderating research with participants with vision and hearing loss, remotely 🫶 There are a lot of ways to ensure we design with care, and don’t unknowingly expose people to triggering experiences (wealth of examples by Erika Menczigar, a solid presentation from Afreen Saulat) 💡 1 in 4 people will be 60 by 2025, and we are nowhere near designing for nearly 2 billion people(mind-blowing stat and great work from Stacey M.) 🧑🤝🧑 It’s key to think about the decision-makers and engage core stakeholders in our process, demonstrating tangible impact your research makes (very informative tips on planning inclusive research from Marianthi Vezertzi) 🚀 Drop us a line at Cosmic Velocity if you’d like to make sure your products and services serve a broader and more diverse audience ❤️ Lovely photo credit Aneta Zokaite #design #research #InclusiveResearch #ServiceDesign #Events #Community #Collaboration

Leveling up our game: Why a soccer table in the office means more than just playtime. 🏓💼 At our office, it's not just about desks and computers – we've got a soccer table too. And trust us, there's method to the madness! While some might see it as mere fun, we believe it's a game-changer in more ways than one. Here are three reasons why having a soccer table in the office is a genius move: 🤝 Teamwork & Unity: Table soccer brings colleagues together in a laid-back environment, fostering camaraderie and boosting collaboration. It's where bonds are built and teams are strengthened. 🎨 Stress Relief & Creativity Boost: A quick break at the soccer table can work wonders, clearing minds and sparking fresh ideas. Research proves that short breaks enhance productivity – so let's kick some stress to the curb! 💼 Cultivating Office Culture: Laughter and relaxation are essential in any workspace. Our soccer table sets the stage for positivity, ensuring everyone feels at home and ready to conquer the day. So, who's game for a match? 😉 #OfficeFun #TeamSpirit #SoccerRevolution #softwaredevelopment #onexip #ux #app #ux #productsuserslove

I got to attend a fireside chat with Don Norman—a pioneer in user-centered design. It was interesting to hear his perspective suggesting that to enact meaningful change, one should embrace a more diversified skill set, encompassing areas such as business, history, politics, economics, etc. This broadened education in design would enhance one's capacity to secure elevated positions. 👩💼 I was happy to hear this as someone interested in politics and business (I majored in political science hahaha). I also loved his phrase "Don't be a colonialist" and focusing on "humanity-focused design" to design for the better of the world rather than the profit of companies. This is why I have volunteered my time and skills at Sean's Legacy—it was one of the best UX-related decisions I have made. Also, I thought about being on the arts and communications board for Gwinnett County Schools, helping students have better experiences at school. However, most UX positions focus on the company profits for fairly obvious reasons 💸. It isn't necessarily a bad thing, however, Don Norman stressed that it was crucial to think beyond the "user" and to consider humanity. #uxdesign #uidesign #usercentereddesign #donnorman #uxui

A Day in the Life of a Tech Worker: Blending LA's Creativity with SF's Innovation As a #UXUIDesigner, I often reflect on how our work environments shape our creative process. Setting the ground for #accessibility with our PUSH UX Breakout Session! This year, our colleagues Mareike Klauß and Zoe Luck had the pleasure to host a breakout session at the PUSH UX 2023. The enthusiasm and #engagement we witnessed were absolutely phenomenal! What was the gist of our session, you ask yourselves? We set out to redefine the meaning of accessibility and bring to light the diverse dimensions it encompasses. ➡️ Because accessibility is far more than just color contrast; it's about understanding the multifaceted needs and dimensions of users BEFORE diving into solutions. ➡️ Because accessibility is more than compliance and it begins by beating the drum for marginalized groups and understanding their needs in order to create digital experiences that are truly inclusive and meaningful to everyone. Our biggest takeaway from talking to our participants? The design community is not just interested but hungry to explore accessibility and #inclusion further. It's amazing to connect with so many allies who share our passion! A big shoutout to the PUSH team @Francesca Terzi and @Paola Papetti as well as all volunteers that made our Breakout Session happen! #Thank you so much! Let's keep the conversation going and continue to foster accessibility and inclusion in the #design community but also beyond. We look forward to more collaborations, discussions, and, most importantly, pushing the boundaries of UX to make the digital world accessible to all.
