An interesting study aimed to identify ways to improve ER+/HER2- breast cancer patient's treatment. The current standard of care involves the use CDK4/6 inhibitors with hormone therapy, however many patients become resistant to this treatment. Dr. Lauren Elizabeth Bathurst, Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology University of Toronto, identified the IFN-sig as a potential novel predictive biomarker of CDK4/6i response as well as potential treatment strategies to overcome or prevent the development of resistance. Take lymphocytes from the patient that are already primed and are attacking the tumour, propagate them, then inject them back into the patient and let them do their work killing the cancer they were derived from.
