This is because we are testing the Virtual Power Plant’s ability to respond to ERCOT grid-support signals. After the initial qualification of the Tesla Electric VPP, your Powerwall discharges will be less frequent and more aligned with times that the grid needs support. #sustainability #alternativeenergy

While Tesla has been a pioneer in making EVs at scale and pushing the industry to offer competitors, it has been quite slow at adopting bi-directional charging or "Vehicle to Grid" (V2G) charging. This is an established technology that allows thousands of EVs to act together like a giant grid battery helping smooth out fluctuations most associated with renewables such as #windpower and #solarpower. Great perspective below. Fast charging serves a specific need for highway applications. It is NOT a viable solution for how most of us use transportation. This is a GOOD thing. Specific trips to charge your vehicle is a “gas station” mentality when in reality, EVs offer a better solution. Charging while at home, at work and on the go means no specific trips to fill your car. And it can be done with cheaper and easier Level 2 electronics that save everyone money and reduce stress on EV batteries. Inductive Robotics is working on this future.

I’ve heard a lot of buzz about perceived problems with Tesla supercharging the past few days. It’s been coming from Tesla owners, non-Tesla owners, utilities, and it’s being fueled by the mainstream news media. To clear things up, your U.S. power grid and home charging is 99.95% reliable (or better) in most jurisdictions. Superchargers are as reliable at 99.95% up time. I can’t say the same for gas stations or non-Tesla superchargers / fast chargers. Thank you electric utilities for keeping our electric grid and diversified generation mix reliable. Thank you Tesla for producing reliable cars and chargers.

PowerShare on the Tesla Cybertruck is such a big deal. The Cybertruck has a 123 kWh battery. A Tesla Powerwall battery is only 13.5 kWh. If people who already have Tesla Solar and Powerwalls, using Cybertruck PowerShare is like adding an additional 9 Tesla Powerwalls to your house! Also if you lost power in your home for an extended period of time, you could drive your Cybertruck to a supercharger with power, and drive back home and be good for several more days. Each PowerWall cost about $8400 and 9 units equal $75,600. Basically you get a free truck. Why buy powerwalls at all? Just get the CT instead. My average electricity usage is about 1 kWh and 123 kWh could keep me going for 5 days during power outage.
