I've sold products and services for over 20 years... and I'm not done... here's why... I freaking love ❤️ it! As a wireless rep for Verizon Wireless I ranked in the top 5% of the entire company at the age of 20. I regularly hit over 300% to my quota. Then I transitioned into b2b sales where I started a an #sdr . I'll never forget my welcome after I rang the bell 2x in the same day as my campaign assignment. A more seasoned sdr approached me and said "slow down there hot shot your not doing anyone any favors... you can make the same money by ringing it once a day and coast half the day... work smarter not harder... your just going to raise our quota"💩 The comp plan was a little messed up, but I wasn't slowing down. I went on to be their first Director of Business Development. I played football and was an all state running back. I do bbj and finished 2nd in an internal gym completion finishing purple, brown, and black belts @ 44 as a blue belt. 💪 I'm not saying this to brag... I'm trying to say I love to compete. I love the sport of sales. I love 🥰raising the bar and look on people's face when I break another record. Here's why I don't think it's pride. Right after I'm done breaking the record...I show them how I did it... and I coach until they do it too. I think that's leadership. I've met with some companies who have thought about #hiring me and i get the sense they doubt I can carry a quota bc I've been a Chief for the past 11 years. You know what they are right ✅️ I don't carry quota I smash through it. I bench press it 200x and break it over my knee. 🥱 @ ProspectHunter I've sold over $3m in #saas $500k in #softwaredevelopment $2M in #msp services and millions in other services and products. Unpopular Sales Leader Opinion 1: You don’t own sales talent when you hire, you lease it. I’ve told my team that I hope they are off my team in two years, for good reasons. I hope that they achieve all the measurables and grow all the skills needed for their next job. Personally, I hope it’s with Salesforce. That’s the unpopular part. But more sensible portion is that I believe sales leaders have a moral obligation to let our people leave us better than when they arrived. They should be able to point our time together and be able to say that they’re a better professional in a certain area because of their time on my team. I developed this understanding while being in uniform. It’s common for servicemembers to leave units/teams. It’s also in regulation that you hold a rank for a defined period of time. There is this unwritten rule that you’re either moving up or out. Remember that when you aren’t growing someone’s career, you’re hurting two people. You’re hurting the person you aren’t growing. You’re also hurting their replacement. Serve people, and you’ll get the most out of them.

If you're looking at a new sales opportunity, you need to be asking these questions. - What is the current sales process? How long does it take from initial contact to closed? - What are the common objections? - What are the common deal breakers? - What is the onboarding process? - What support is in place to make sure I start strong? - Who are the top performers and what are they doing differently to everyone else? - What are the KPIs? - What does success look like? - If I was to join, what would you like to see changed/improved in 3 months?

What makes a high performing sales team? During my first years in sales, our team did GREAT. Most of us made Presidents club, that year and the next. Looking back at it, I'm surprised at how well we did for how 'inexperienced' we were. What we didn't have: - Prior sales/industry experience - Fancy tools/software/playbooks - Extensive onboarding/training - Sales methodology The product was great, but it wasn't flawless. Realistically most products aren't. What we did have: - Strong and experienced leadership - Clear ICP, USP, GTM & messaging - Close knit team, fun at work - Strong work ethic & motivation - Team of superb SDR's & SE's Off course a superior product, extensive training and modern sales tools help. But ultimately people and culture are the key to a high performing sales team. One of the best things about being an Sales Leader is building relationships with your reps. You not only have an opportunity to help others. You have a chance to change your and their lives. Yes we're all here to do a job and create revenue. Yes we need to book meetings. Yes we need to make the dials and prospect. But that's not all we're here for. Have positive conversations. Motivate each other. As a mentor and leader, you need to be that go-to person. Because let's be honest. Tenure at SaaS Orgs is not extremely long for most people. So while you're working with each other. Build with each other. Grow together. Achieve together. And keep those relationships going after you part ways. I love when one of my previous SDRs or AEs reaches out to me after we're at different orgs. It's an amazing feeling when they share positive things without about their lives, and you know you had a part in it.
