⭐️ Legal Assistant at Marlborough Law Ltd. ⭐️ Second year law with criminology student at the University of Birmingham.
🌟 What I wish I could have told myself before starting university…🌟 As my second year at the University of Birmingham comes to a close, I thought I would reflect on my journey so far. For a bit of background, I am currently studying law with criminology and am working as a legal assistant at Marlborough Law Ltd this summer. These are the three key takeaways that I wish I could have told myself two years ago before starting at Birmingham. 1. Self-Motivation is Key: Transitioning from sixth form to university, the biggest challenge was staying self-motivated. My biggest tip to combat this is to surround yourself with like-minded peers who share your ambitions. 2. Practical Experience: Working at Marlborough Law has shown me how different real-world law practice is from studying. Applying my knowledge to actual cases has been incredibly insightful. 3. Network Boldly: Don't be afraid to make connections. My role at Marlborough Law started with a simple email. Take initiative and reach out. Let me know if you agree and for more insights, check out my segment on last month's legal and financial show on 4Legs Radio (https://lnkd.in/eGJqzhpb). 🎙️ #LawStudent #LegalCareer #Networking #UniversityLife #LawWithCriminology

"Developing legs of clay"- A fear commonly experienced by many junior advocates. To address a judge, is equal to addressing an Authority in Power. It is like addressing a King or a Queen. In my junior days, I lost many opportunities of addressing judges by "Developing Feet of Clay" at the last moment. At my young age, no senior advocate guided me about how to stop developing "developing feet of clay" when an opportunity to address a judge comes our way. To those who may be in my junior age and who may be desiring to know how to stop "Developing Feet of Clay" when an opportunity to address any judge arrives, I can say two things. 1) Stop feeling ashamed about it when you may develop feet of clay in any situation and when strong desire to back off over powers you. We all are humans. None of us is a super woman or a super man. To feel these emotions and to be overpowered by our emotions is a natural human trait which involves automatic release of several chemicals in our brain. There is nothing to be ashamed of when we feel that we have developed feet of clay. 2) There is an inner child living within me. There is an inner child living within you. There is an inner child living in all of us. Be kind to this inner child. Tell this inner child that it is okay to develop feet of clay. Tell him to do better next time. Encourage this inner child. Do not force this inner child to do anything against his/her wishes. This I write on the basis of my experience. (Copyright) Haresh Raichura 22nd August, 2024 #lawyers #lawstudents #interns

Dear Dara N. Byrne, Ann Kirschner, Felix Matos Rodriguez I am sharing these alum letters publicly with you. As an alum of both Hunter College and Macaulay Honors College, I am deeply disappointed and appalled by the response, or rather the lack thereof, to the ongoing genocide in Gaza. A collective of alumni collaborated to compose these two letters addressed to the CUNY administration. We feel a profound sense of shame for having been associated with institutions that seem to lack the moral compass to stand on the right side of history. The suppression of academia and activism related to Palestine on campuses must stop. The investment in corporations that support the Israeli occupation must stop. The unwarranted surveillance of Black and Brown students on campus must stop. We reject the role of being mere token diverse students and alumni. It is disheartening to witness the silence and the propagation of harmful rhetoric against students, setting a dangerous precedent for Muslim/Arab students across the United States. While you will find alumni who have already signed these letters, it's important to note that due to concerns about doxing, some alumni are unable to sign their names publicly. So, although you may see signatures on these letters, there are dozens more who support this message but cannot openly declare their support. This fact underscores the gravity of our safety concerns at this time. To Felix Matos Rodriguez specifically, we see you ignoring our pleas. Faculty, students and staff have been urging you to stand on the right side of history, and you are posting one-sided statements that fuel hateful rhetoric to your own student and faculty body. Make no mistake, we will not forget this as alumni, staff, and students. https://lnkd.in/etJg9QQ9 tinyurl.com/macaulayletter

After looking over many curriculum for Criminal Justice degrees lately I’ve come to the personal conclusion that the educational institutions are failing the students who plan to go onto to law enforcement careers. One of the most critical skills a law enforcement officer needs is communication, written and verbal. Our colleges and universities need to get past English comp 101 or intro to public speaking and develop real life courses that teach students how to talk to people who are under stress or have mental health issues. Police acadmies and departments are doing better but more practical communication training is needed. I know easy to say when you don’t have to deal with low staffing and budget restrictions. Is anyone aware of a college program the emphasizes communication for law enforcement students?

The Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Act 2023 has seen universities across the country raise a host of questions, so our legal experts have compiled this helpful Q&A guide. It covers a wide range of topics, such as: • Does the Act apply to colleges? • What is the difference between academic freedom and freedom of speech? • What will the consequences of breaching freedom of speech duties be? • What are the new/amended duties and who do they apply to? • When will it be implemented? Access the frequently asked questions and, crucially, the answers here: https://lnkd.in/eDb-uvyA Ciara Campfield Ollie Daw Clare Wigzell #University #College #HE #StoneKing #Legal #FreedomOfSpeech #AcademicFreedom #Colleges #FE
