Last week, we had the honor of having Hon. Martin Liao Cheung-kong, GBS, JP to share his insights on the latest policy address with #EY partners. I was thrilled to join a fireside chat with Martin and Agnes Chan, BBS afterwards, a session moderated by Jasmine SY Lee.   Hong Kong must strive to sharpen its edge in order to remain a global powerhouse. The policy address will drive progress in enhancing Hong Kong’s position as a global or regional center in eight areas, as laid down in the 14th five-year plan. What did I learn from Malaysia’s second richest man? 1. Humility During the lockdown, I requested him to give guidance to other entrepreneurs on managing through the challenge. His response: You are always too kind to me. You give me too much credit. 2. Abundance Mindset One of my first task when I took over as Head of HR for the group was to issue a share grant worth SGD33 Million to the head of our investment company in Singapore. Yes, a grant, not an option, of SGD33,000,000 to one person. Even other family members questioned the decision. His response: Do you know how much HE gave me? 3. Listen In every discussion, he will listen attentively. Every feedback is acted upon. This morning, when I went to Hong Leong Bank in Puchong, I noticed that they had not a single Deepavali decoration. When I asked the bank staff, she told me that I can dream of it but it won't happen. I was upset because I sorted this issue out when I was in the Group. I even forced for Deepavali angpow packets then. This is unacceptable and I informed him, with the photo below. He responded immediately and instructed the management team to address it. Yes, a bit too late, and yet, he still listens. Will these lessons be applicable to you? I am unsure and yet, it is for you to decide. #successprinciples

Themed “vibrant economy for a caring community”, the Policy Address actively aligns with the national strategy and formulates a policy blueprint for Hong Kong's development.   This year, Mr. John Lee has introduced measures aimed at bolstering the overall economy, enhancing development momentum, and alleviating hardships while improving people's lives.
