Columbia University Irving Medical Center’s Post

#ColumbiaMed proudly recognizes Juneteenth as an official University holiday! To commemorate the day, Columbia University Irving Medical Center’s African, Black and Caribbean Employee Resource Group in collaboration with Columbia University School of Nursing’s Office of Diversity and Cultural Affairs, Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health's Office of Diversity, Culture & Inclusion, and the Office of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion in the department of Columbia Psychiatry hosted a JUNETEENTH: Healing through the ARTS celebration. Attendees enjoyed light bites, poetry and more while learning about the history of #Juneteenth and its significance.   Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States by honoring the events of June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved African Americans that they were free and the Civil War was over.
