Everyone should have what they need to live their healthiest lives, including access to housing that’s affordable, good jobs with fair pay, and places to play and exercise. But inequities have prevented many—particularly communities of color and communities with low incomes—from having these resources. Change is needed: Those that build, govern, and finance communities must do so through an equity lens. That means intentionally reshaping policies and programs to prioritize historically disinvested communities, investing financial capital to support community revitalization efforts, and ensuring residents are involved in the decisions that shape their neighborhoods. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation uses grantmaking and impact investments, along with policy-change efforts, to support equitable community development. https://rwjf.ws/3qqCUJm #ImpInv #ImpactInvesting #Philanthropy #FinancialSecurity #CommunityDevelopment #UrbanDevelopment

When the nation was struck in 2019 with a series of tragic events that once again brought to light the injustices of inequities for African-Americans and other minority populations, The Dayton Foundation and community partners ramped up efforts to create a fair and equitable community for all our region’s citizens. From this work grew the Nonprofit Capacity-Building Partnership, a collaborative leadership initiative between the Mathile Family Foundation and The Dayton Foundation. The initiative’s goal is to strengthen local African-American led or majority African-American serving nonprofit organizations to better address inequities in Montgomery County. The first cohort of the Nonprofit Capacity Building Partnership is coming to an end. Nonprofits in the cohort have cited support and gaining new knowledge and skills as just a couple of the benefits of participating in the Partnership over the past two years. However, an unexpected outcome is that these organizations are forming new relationships and beginning to work together outside of the cohort meetings. These new relationships are leading to greater support and service in areas in need throughout our community. One example is this connection between Five Rivers Health Centers and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton, which is bringing new homes to Dayton's Edgemont neighborhood. The Community Development Block Grant program is a vital resource for local governments, providing them with the ability to address critical needs and improve the overall quality of life for their residents. Enacted by Congress in 1974 under the Housing and Community Development Act and signed into law by President Gerald Ford on August 22, 1974, CDBG provides necessary funding to communities across the country to address infrastructure, economic development, housing, disaster recovery, and other community needs. CDBG was the result of the consolidation of eight categorical programs which were federally funded. Low- and moderate-income people are the direct program beneficiaries. States and entitlement cities and counties receive direct program allocations. Small, rural communities receive assistance through their state. Nonprofit organizations, contractors, and other local partner organizations serve as program subrecipients to deliver local CDBG activities. If you would like to learn the basics of CDBG grants, please consider registering for National Association for County Community and Economic Development's CDBG's Basic course, a virtual training held with the Cloudburst Group. We look forward to seeing you there! New Jersey's Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit (#NRTC) program provides a unique funding method for community development organizations. By offering a 100% tax credit to businesses that fund nonprofit revitalization plans, NJ focuses on the ability to plan and execute comprehensive community projects rather than adhering to strict #CDC definitions like in #SC or #MA. Should more states offer flexible funding procedures to enhance community development efforts? https://bit.ly/3Run2ji #CommunityDevelopment #UrbanDevelopment #SocialGood

The organization’s mission is to create permanently affordable housing for low-to-moderate-income individuals and families through community ownership of the land. As the housing crisis persists, there remains an urgent need to secure affordable, stable housing for those who have been historically marginalized. There is a growing conversation about the role Community Land Trusts can play in municipal housing planning. Strong collaborations between local nonprofit CLT organizations and city, county, and state organizations supporting housing options for Washington communities are essential. This blog post explains why.
