Dep Inclusion Lead, Chair of Race network SPACE at Surrey Police & national cabinet member of the NBPA. Passion for EDI to achieve fairness through authenticity and action. DIG DEEPER. LOOK CLOSER. THINK BIGGER.
Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend the National Police Chiefs' Council #Raceactionplan event: Whose plan is it anyway? The event was hosted in Birmingham and was attended by #policing colleagues from over 20 #police forces throughout the UK We had the opportunity to hear from a number of speakers highlighting the need for the plan and importance of keeping momentum in delivering it. Various forces presented how they are delivering the plan and it was positive to see the various innovative approaches to #engaging #connecting and #understanding #blackheritage #communities. Highlights of the day for me was hearing of local community based groups such as #MainzWorld doing amazing things supporting and educating the youth and incredible community volunteers who devote so much of their time, energy and passion to ensuring a better future for Black communities. It made me realise how Important this work is… and how important it is to deliver a plan that keeps moving forward to eradicate #racism #bias and #disproportionality in policing. I did however note, that despite the talks talking about the importance of the plan… they were heard by people who are already on board, they already get the importance and they already support it. I wondered however how those voices reach people not in the room. Those who chose not to attend and those who continue each day denying the existence of racism and the need for the plan. Those who think all this #antiracism stuff is woke nonsense and look forward to all this discussion to blow over so they can get back to ‘real police work’. Those are the people that these convos need to reach and that is the task for our individual police forces to focus on to drive that change. Well done to Ron Lock MSt (Cantab) CMgr FCMI for hosting and all the organisers for putting on the event. #diversity #inclusion #equity #blackexcellence #policeofficer #empowerment #education #bethechange #betheimpact #raceequality #forceforall

Today, we commemorate the end of slavery in the United States and reflect on the importance of freedom, equality, and justice. At the Coalition Against Financial Crime, we believe in the power of diversity and inclusivity in our mission to combat financial crime. While we honor this historic milestone, we recognize that the fight against modern slavery continues to this day. Our coalition is dedicated to disrupting the illicit financial networks that enable human and sex trafficking and exploitation. We stand together to tackle these injustices and work tirelessly to protect the vulnerable. Our commitment to fighting financial crime is intertwined with our dedication to promoting a fair and equitable society. On this significant day, we stand together to honor the past, recognize the progress made, and continue striving for a brighter future. Let us celebrate Juneteenth by embracing unity, mutual respect, and the ongoing pursuit of justice for all. Together, we can and will make a difference. 🤝 #Juneteenth #Unity #Diversity #Inclusion #FinancialCrime #EndFinCrime #EndModernSlavery #CAFC #HumanTrafficking #Exploitation

The recent developments in the case of the Colorado LGBTQ+ club shooting, where the perpetrator Anderson Aldrich intends to plead guilty to federal hate crime and firearm charges, is a somber reminder of the ongoing struggle against hate and bigotry in our society. This case, involving the tragic loss of five lives and the terrorization of many others, highlights the destructive impact of hate-fueled violence, particularly against marginalized communities. Aldrich's decision to plead guilty to 50 hate crime charges and 24 firearm violations, under an agreement to avoid the death penalty, brings some closure to this heinous act. However, it also opens up broader conversations about justice, hate crimes, and the protection of vulnerable communities. The fact that Aldrich was previously sentenced to life imprisonment for state charges and now faces additional federal charges underscores the gravity of the crime and the legal system's effort to address such acts of violence comprehensively. The attack on Club Q in November 2022 was not just an attack on individuals; it was an attack on the LGBTQ+ community and the values of diversity and inclusivity that we, as a society, strive to uphold. It's crucial to recognize the importance of safe spaces for marginalized groups and the devastating impact when these spaces are violated. The federal charges serve as a strong statement against hate crimes, affirming that such acts will not be tolerated and will be met with the full force of the law. Moreover, the plea agreement and the avoidance of the death penalty in this case also touch upon the broader debate around the death penalty in the United States. While some, like Ashtin Gamblin, a survivor of the shooting, expressed a desire for Aldrich to face the death penalty, it's essential to consider the complexities surrounding this form of punishment, especially in the context of hate crimes. This case also highlights the need for continuous vigilance and action against hate in all its forms. It's a call to reinforce our commitment to creating a society where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, race, or religion, can live without fear of violence or persecution. The tragic events at Club Q remind us of the work that still needs to be done in combating hate and promoting understanding and acceptance. While the legal proceedings in the Colorado Springs Club Q shooting move towards resolution, it's imperative that we, as a community, continue to stand in solidarity with all those affected by such acts of hate. Let us honor the memories of those lost by reaffirming our commitment to fighting against bigotry and championing the values of diversity, inclusivity, and respect for all individuals.

🚨 Urgent Call to Action 🚨 Tell lawmakers to vote NO on SB63! Protect Black Mamas and ensure they are home where they belong - with their families, not behind bars because they are too poor to afford bail. Senate Bill 63 poses a direct threat to this cause, aiming to expand wealth-based detention that could unjustly incarcerate Black mothers for their inability to pay. It's a critical moment to act and uphold the values of justice and family unity. Tell lawmakers to vote NO on SB63. Let’s fight for a world where freedom isn't sold to the highest bidder. . . . . . . #EndCashBail #JusticeForAll #NoWealthBasedDetention #Equality #FairBailForAll #StopSB63 #CivilRights #JusticeOverProfit #BailReform #FreeOurPeople #Solidarity #ActNow #DemandJustice #FightPovertyNotThePoor #LibertyForAll #BailOutBlackMoms #JusticeImpacted #FairTreatment

It is #HumanTraffickingAwarenessDay, so take a moment to spread awareness and debunk some common myths about human trafficking and modern slavery. Human trafficking is a complex social justice issue that is difficult to identify, and adding to further misconceptions, it is often misrepresented in pop culture. Here are some myths to look out for: ⚠️MYTH: Human Trafficking is a problem far away Human trafficking exists in all countries around the world. People of every race, gender identification, religion, age, and economic background can be susceptible to human trafficking but poverty and discrimination increase vulnerability. ⚠️MYTH: Perpetrators are ‘criminals’ Perpetrators may not be recognized as ‘criminals’, they can be unscrupulous employers, companies, and governments. Perpetrators can even be victims of human trafficking themselves, forced or coerced to traffick others. ⚠️MYTH: People in slavery are transported and tied up. Human trafficking is often portrayed in pop culture as a young girl being swiped off the street or tied up. It is human trafficking if force, coercion, deception or fraud is used. Transportation and physical restraint are not always present. ⚠️MYTH: If it’s expensive, it wasn’t made with trafficked forced labor. A higher price does not guarantee that a product is slavery-free. Many materials used in expensive items have been implicated in the use of forced labor: diamonds, cobalt for batteries, fabric for designer clothing. ⚠️MYTH: Human trafficking only affects women and girls. Human trafficking affects both men, women, boys and girls. Historically, most identified victims of human trafficking are women. More recently organizations have become better at identifying male victims of human trafficking. ⚠️MYTH: There is nothing I can do about it. You do have the power to make a difference! Together we can hold businesses and governments accountable and push for change. When we come together, our collective voice can have a big impact. Keep learning about human trafficking and turn your awareness into action by signing our petitions! https://lnkd.in/eYQgdHRB

"A new report by UN International experts advancing racial justice and equality in policing, published after an official visit to the country, shows that Black people in the US are three times more likely to be killed by police than if they were white, and 4.5 times more likely to be incarcerated." The work to advance racial justice and equity in our country is ongoing and must be continued. We are investing in community-led organizations addressing interconnected social issues so that they may continue to tackle immediate (local) challenges that can transform their own communities. We also recognize that individual and community wellbeing requires us to combat systemic racism by building economic, social, and political power within communities. https://lnkd.in/eahQbRPb
