As a team, Q3 team is walking in the 2023 Walk to End Alzheimer's on November 11th in Tampa and we need your support! Why are we participating? As an organization, we feel every individual has value and deserves to be treated with dignity and is worthy of compassion. Funds raised from this effort will go to support the 24/7 care and support provided by the Alzheimer's Association to direct caregivers and to advance research toward methods of prevention, treatment, and ultimately a cure. Tackling health disparities in rare diseases on the path to greater clinical trial diversity - start with rethinking measures of diversity Yesterday I had the honor to present at the Guthy Jackson Charitable Foundation pre-ECTRIMS findings and insights of two health equities studies. Many of my colleagues and hundreds of patients made this research possible. A key finding is that we need to think “outside the box” if we want to measure the diversity of patients included in research. Achieving greater trial diversity will require investments. And these will be hard to get unless we can measure progress. Need an idea? Try capturing race using the US OMB standard question on race and offering patients the choice to assign percentage weight in case they select more than one category.

And today is shaping up to be a good one! 🌟 This marks the end of the third week of my 150km challenge. 115km logged – another 35 to go… Last night's rain left behind a plethora of puddles for my canine companion and me to navigate this morning. 🏃♂️🐶The fog was so thick that visibility was a challenge. Despite these obstacles, we managed to log 10.39 km today and are now on the brink of achieving our ultimate goal! 🎯 💡 Directing the spotlight once again to the cause we're running for: the remarkable impact fostered by #TheFredHollowsFoundation, co-founded by Fred and his wife Gabby. Now, let's dive into the reason we're lacing up those sneakers – treating blindness is like a superhero's mission. It's not just about restoring vision; it's about wiping out barriers in underserved communities. Think about it – beyond medical care, these places lack basic life essentials. Imagine if a family member loses their vision, usually a young one. Suddenly, another family member becomes their sidekick, helping them navigate daily life. But hang on, where's the extra support? That's the challenge. And don't even get me started on trachoma – this disease is so viral a hug can even pass it along. So, avoidable blindness isn't just a personal hurdle; it affects families, communities, and the entire economy like a domino effect. But here's the jaw-dropper: every $1 invested in defeating avoidable blindness comes back as a whopping $4 boost for the economy. Since the inception of #TheFredHollowsFoundation, it has impacted over 3 million lives, training doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers to identify, diagnose, refer, and address ocular issues within their communities. The Foundation's vital advocacy efforts spread awareness about the prevention and treatment of avoidable blindness at the local level. It uses a framework that is central to how the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Administration for Community Living think about integrating healthcare and social care.
