A nationwide survey by Fertility Network UK reveals 1 in 3 facing infertility receives minimal employer support, thus fostering a workplace stigma. Given that 1 in 6 couples  struggles with infertility, the subject should not be silenced in the workplace. Employers will benefit from encouraging open dialogue on the issue. A more supportive community will yield greater happiness, increased transparency and, I’m willing to bet,  improved productivity at work.

Anyone who has experienced infertility knows that it takes a village to navigate the complex highs and lows that come with treatment. Employers should be striving to be part of that support network for their workers.

Infertility is a struggle that is at the forefront of one’s mind day in and day out if they are struggling to conceive. To be in a work environment that offers little to no support when it comes to this matter is detrimental to one’s emotional well-being.
