I recently moved offices and faced a decision: Should my FedEx President's Club award stay or go? When I took over, my territory was the worst-performing in the district, arguably one of the worst in the region. 😰 The truth is, this award isn't just about me. It is a tribute to an operations and customer support team that never quit and mentors who gave real-world advice when it mattered most. 🌟 So, the award stays. It's my daily reminder that with hard work, teamwork, perseverance, faith, and a little luck, even the toughest challenges can be overcome. To those struggling in sales: don't give up. I recently made a mistake when celebrating a great month in our company.  We blew away our goal and I wanted to recognize our team. Instead of just congratulating our team for their great accomplishment, I threw in the dreaded "but" at the end of it. "but, next month will most likely be much different." There was no need for me to do this.  I intended to shield them from a possible letdown the following month since we always have a strong January. The "but" was not necessary at that time (and probably not at all). Celebrate your wins.  Recognize the success of your team - the other stuff can wait. A well-informed team already knows of the challenges that may lie ahead and is prepared to handle them. Let celebrating your wins stand on its own.  Do not dilute what your team accomplished. Interestingly, February came and they beat our target for that month as well.....and did it again in March.

It’s not just down to the driver; it's everyone else that contributes, like the pit crew, engineers, strategists, and support staff. Together, they make success possible! 🏎️💨 Seeing Lewis Hamilton navigate these challenges with determination and skill is truly inspiring. His resilience and dedication remind us that with the right support and hard work, we can achieve greatness. Like they say, there is no "I" in team. To be successful, you need to surround yourself with the right people who know more than you. As I’ve always said, it’s not me that’s successful, it’s us – the organisation. Everyone’s contribution matters. Your win is our success, and your losses are our lessons that make us stronger. As Lewis Hamilton once said, "You can knock me down, but I get up twice as strong." Let's adopt this mindset in our sales team, pushing through challenges together and coming out stronger. 🌟

Every year, Irwin Mitchell hosts their own version of the Oscars, the IM Success Awards. It’s an opportunity for individuals, teams and managers to recognise and be recognised for the many ways they support our clients, our colleagues and our communities. This year there were over 500 nominations, which lead to over 1000 of our people being shouted out across 7 different categories. All the nominations are then somehow whittled down to a final shortlist of five and the winners are announced today during a virtual event - which for obvious reasons is more video testimonies and a chance to say thanks and less red carpets and champagne (it is at 10am to be fair). For the second year in a row, I have somehow made the final shortlist, thanks to the in-house brand refresh we delivered in the summer. This project was only possible because of the work of so many amazing people that I can't speak highly enough of and it’s great to reflect on how lucky I am to work with them day-in, day-out. When you look at some of the nominations, it really does reinforce everything and everyone that is special about Life at Irwin Mitchell. The fact that so many people, who are so busy, take the time to acknowledge others, be kind and say thank you, shouldn't be underestimated when we have so much to deliver. I don’t expect to win for two reasons. 1), I’m up against some truly brilliant colleagues that are much more deserving winners and 2) (lifting up the curtain for you here), one of my designers worked on the video announcements and I forced him to tell me who won 😊. On a serious note, I’m very proud to be recognised alongside Sarah Al-Jourani, Gurpreet Lalli, Sarah Brumpton, Jack Bookey and everyone else in the other categories. But more importantly, it’s great to work somewhere that wants to reward their colleagues and recognise the role they play in their growth, their culture and their success. #lifeatIM #culturechange #recognition

Thought for the Day: Celebrate the Wins "The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate." - Oprah Winfrey Today marks a significant milestone in a project at work. It’s taken us over a year to prepare for and multiple years before that leading up to this step. In practice, the change will be minor. There’s little risk and multiple contingency plans if something should go wrong. But the significance of the moment is huge. You could sense the heightened levels of energy the last week as the team ran through what was about to take place. We were all doing what we could to ensure that nothing was missed. The level of scrutiny from our leaders had reached hyperdrive. As we wrapped up our preparations and space opened up in our days. The meetings leading up to this milestone came off the calendars and were replaced with new meeting. Our time and focus quickly shifted to all the remaining work that is still to come (there’s a lot of it). In fact the majority of my thoughts this morning are not about the accomplishment in front of us, but about the next problem we need to solve. It’s on to the next thing because there’s always a next thing. There will always be another problem to solve or another milestone to strive for. Striving towards something has a ton of value and merit, but if we do that at the expense of celebrating the wins along the way we miss the point. Take time to celebrate when things are worth celebrating. Acknowledge the work that has been done before we move on to the next one.

On that card, they write down who they are and what they did that was awesome and pin it on the board. You can see below that there's a lot of great stuff being done that's getting noticed. This particular Go> Choose board is at our dealer support center, and each of the Bish's RV locations has a board of its own. It's awesome being able to see all in one place how the team is not only serving each other, but how they are going beyond the norm to make a good experience for everyone that walks into a Bish's RV location.

Hard Truth As we kick off this week, I want you know this, you no longer need to overplay your role. You don’t need to perform to prove your worth. It is not your responsibility to prove or try to secure yourself into someone else’s world. Who has the best idea Who was most creative Who was the most dedicated…. Stop ✋🏽 One of my favorite employers acknowledged associates based on facts. Each quarter, nationwide, the numbers rolled out. Favorable Occupancy, GPR, NOI, NRI and the best of the best made their debut. If you were standing on business that award was sent via fedex to you each time. I have three 💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾 Don’t get caught up in the hype of the performance. Strive for excellence that benefits the assets you oversee. Stay focused on the original assignment. And that’s being true to your authentic self. Carry On.
