#ABIM2023 was a roaring success! It welcomed over 1,800 participants from 58 countries to share innovative ideas, network and highlight the importance of biocontrol. We were delighted to kick off the ABIM - Annual Biocontrol Industry Meeting 2023 with news that the European Parliament's ENVI Committee voted in favour of MEP Sarah Wiener's report on the SUR, which included vital compromise amendments with provisions for an EU-wide definition for biocontrol and fast-track of authorisation procedures for biocontrol. Such good vibes talking with IBMA - International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association President last week in Switzerland when we heard the news about the #SUR vote. I’ve been helping get this disruptive technology into the Green Deal agenda since early 2020, and we’ve made solid progress… ✅Full support from the European Commission for this game changing natural method of farming ✅Majority support from MEPs in the European Parliament ENVI Committee ✅Understanding of the value of biocontrol for nature restoration ✅Evidence on the value of biocontrol for climate mitigation in the farming sector ✅Evidence on the value of biocontrol for farm resilience and food security ✅Appreciation of the value of EU regulation to speed farmers’ access to biocontrol so finally pesticides can be cut ✅Changing the narrative from ‘what is biocontrol’ to ‘how do we unlock biocontrol’ for systems change in food and farming There’s still a long way to go before the new EU Sustainable Use Regulation is adopted, and many more mistruths to overcome but with the growing and glowing IBMA - International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association team, we can dare to dream.

The International Biochar Initiative (IBI) hosted its 2023 Virtual Annual Symposium that took place from Nov 7 to Nov 9, 2023. The Symposium gathered hundreds of participants and around 40 speakers. At the ChemBio Finland conference Paul Freemont underlines an Achilles heal of the multi-billion #biotechnology #biomanufacturing industry. According to Paul, so far the industry operates with just 34 internationally recognized standards! This is a vital issue. In IBISBA we are aware of the issue and wish to contribute to the development of standards, beginning with those required to create interoperability between #biotechnology #infrastructure. The Bioindustry 4.0 project is also playing its part, notably developing data standards.

The members of EU #Bioremediation Cluster will participate to #BioBio2024, in a dedicated session on 20 June from 8.30 to 12.30.
