Recycling Update 2024 Call for Presentations! Speaker application deadline extended until October 30th! Please apply here: https://lnkd.in/gAqrXg7m NCRA welcomes speakers who have not yet presented at this dynamic, fast paced event. Join over 300 attendees from local government recycling staff, policy makers, consultants, haulers and processors from across Northern California to hear about the newest and greatest ideas our field. All speakers have ***10 minutes*** for their presentations and 2 minutes for questions. An advantage is that everyone in attendance will hear your ideas (no breakouts or tracks). We run a pretty tight ship, so it's important that each speaker be well prepared, and stay within their allotted time. Whatever topic you propose, your presentations should reflect NCRA's commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Please make a conscious effort to address these issues as you prepare your submissions, both in textual and graphic elements. In addition, the selection committee encourages proposals focused on SB 1383 implementation and Reuse & Repair.

A roadmap for recycling packaging in my home state of Colorado is underway! How do brands and retailers do their part? Always design against the ‘current recycling system’. Those that start now will avoid the fees associated with EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility). Those that don’t comply will help excellerate the process to advancenent of the future state. When dealing with recycling, the journey is part of the experience—an expression of the seriousness of one’s intent. 📦
CAA has delivered a comprehensive assessment of Colorado's current recycling system to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The Needs Assessment findings demonstrate the potential of Colorado's Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging and paper products program to more than double the state's current recycling rate for these materials. But how well will motivational messages distributed by cart tags and direct mail impact recycling participation and capture? To answer this question, The Partnership’s Center for Sustainable Behavior & Impact developed and piloted three motivational messages with single-family households in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. University of Kentucky Recycling and UK Athletics have a goal to make Kroger Field a zero-waste facility by 2030 — meaning at least 90% of all waste will no longer be sent to the landfill. To reach that goal, UK Recycling and Athletics encouraged Big Blue Nation this season to recycle their glass bottles, aluminum cans, plastic bottles and jugs, and empty pizza boxes both inside the stadium and during their tailgates. Thanks to the dedication of both the fans and staff, waste reduction efforts at Kroger Field diverted a record-setting 32%, or a total of 59.2 tons, of waste from the landfill this football season. This is a 10% increase from last season and an exciting new milestone in the journey to becoming zero-waste. https://lnkd.in/eArHRufW

NYPIRG in the news: Recycling industry, bottle collectors, environmentalists call for updates to Bottle Bill "Blair Horner, Executive Director of NYPIRG, joined dozens of bottle collectors and others from the redemption industry outside the New York State Capitol in Albany May 6, 2024 to call for the passage of bills that would modernize the New York State Bottle Bill. Among the changes in the law that bottle collectors, owners of redemption centers, and environmental groups want to see is the deposit fee raised to 10 cents from the present five cents per bottle. They also want to see an increase in the number of containers that are eligible for deposit." https://lnkd.in/eMz-QWQv
