Did you know? Swimming in freshwater without taking proper safety precautions could lead to the risk of infection. A Georgia resident recently died from a rare brain infection after swimming in a freshwater lake. Always assume there's a risk of infection while swimming in freshwater sources and take these simple safety precautions: 1) Avoid jumping or diving into bodies of warm freshwater 2) Hold your nose shut or keep your head above water 3) Don't put your head underwater in hot springs or other geothermal water sources 4) Don't dig in or stir up sediment in freshwater sources (amoebas are more common in these layers of sediment) Make sure you're swimming safely this summer!

May is National Water Safety Month. As part of National Water Safety Month, the Alliance is encouraging parents to play an active role in promoting water safety and providing six tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable swimming experience for all. # Make sure children know to always ask permission before going in or near the water. # Never swim alone or without a water watcher. # Supervise your children whenever they’re in or near water. # Don’t engage in breath-holding activities. # Wear a life jacket. # Don’t jump in the water to save a friend who is struggling in deep water. Use the “reach, throw, don’t go” concept of using a long object to reach for them and pull them to safety.

Is it worth learning how to swim if you're never around water? According to the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA), the answer is a resounding YES! Water competency is a critical skill and layer of protection, even if you are not around water often. This is especially true for those who live in cities with limited access to aquatic facilities. Swimming lessons provide several benefits beyond being a lifesaving skill. They aid in motor development, build concentration, strengthen muscles, and boost confidence. Equipping your children with swimming lessons is a great way to keep them active and prepared if they ever come into contact with water. Whether it be a vacation, summer camp, or emergency, swim lessons and water competency are important layers of protection for drowning prevention. Join us in supporting #watersafety, #5layersofprotection, #drownalliance, #watercompetency, #learntoswim, #swimlessons, #NDPA, and #BritishSwimSchool in spreading awareness about the importance of swimming skills. Let's make sure everyone has the knowledge and ability to stay safe around water. https://lnkd.in/gnXHj-zr 281-941-2294

Here are some crucial tips to ensure a paw-sitively safe pool experience for your beloved pets! 🐾 1. Introduce Gradually: Not all pets are natural swimmers, so ease them into the water slowly. 2. Swimming Lessons: Just like humans, some pets might need swimming lessons. 3. Exit Strategy: Ensure there's an easy way for your pets to exit the pool. 4. Pool Time Supervision: Never leave your pets unattended near the pool. 5. No Drinking Pool Water: Keep your pets hydrated with fresh water from their bowls. Pool water contains chemicals that can be harmful to their health if ingested #BarrierReefPoolsBunbury #PetPoolSafety #SwimSafeWithPets #Poolsbunbury
