📢 From time to time, I am asked “ Hey Esther, which patients benefit from balloon eustachian tuboplasty (BET)?” A recent study by McMurran et al. examined 25 patients suffering from chronic dilatory Eustachian tube dysfunction (ETD) as well as barochallenge-induced ETD and were treated with BET. Key findings: 🔹 Patients had been seen repeatedly by numerous ENT professionals, averaging 13.4 clinic appointments over an eight-year period 🔹 The majority of patients had tried multiple interventions, such as grommet or T-tube insertion, and myringotomy 🔹 BET resolved symptoms in 64% of patients with 2 years follow-up (16/25) My takeaway is that BET can offer a long-term resolution of obstructive ETD for most of such patients.
